The starting point of Daitokuji-dori and Kenkun-dori intersection Ahead of this is Mt. Funaoka and Kenkun Shrine Kenkun Shrine is dedicated to Oda Nobunaga and his son Nobutada Let’s start Unrin-in came into view Unrin-in Originally a villa for Emperor Junna it later became a temple

It was a large temple but it fell into decline due to fires etc After that it continues to this day as a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji Temple Kannondo The principal image is the Eleven-faced Thousand-Armed Kanzeon Bodhisattva Mr. Binzuru

This Unrin-in Temple also appears in Sakaki Chapter 10 of The Tale of Genji There is also a theory that Murasaki Shikibu the author of The Tale of Genji was born around here Murasaki Shikibu’s grave is also nearby In front is Daitokuji Temple Daitokuji natto is sold around here

Daitokuji natto is a food made using koji Tastes like salty and dry beans It has a unique flavor It is said that Tonchi Ikkyu brought this food to Daitokuji Temple Please try it when you come to Daitokuji Temple

Photos are from the Daitokuji Kazuhisa website For store details see the overview section The entrance to Daitokuji Temple is now in sight Daitoku-ji Somon (Main Gate) Datoku-ji Chokushimon (Imperial Envoy Gate) This is the gate through which imperial envoys from the imperial palace pass Pagoda of Taira Yasuyori

Daitoku-ji Sammon Gate Sen no Rikyu expanded the second floor of this gate He placed a wooden statue of himself on the second floor As a result relations with Toyotomi Hideyoshi deteriorated As a result he was forced to commit seppuku by Hideyoshi It is also called Kinmōkaku

Daitoku-ji Butsuden (Buddha Hall) The principal image is Shakyamuni Nyorai Daitoku-ji Hatto (Lecture Hall) Zen discussions were once held here Kano Tan’yu’s cloud dragon painting is painted on the ceiling There are still many things to see at Daitokuji Temple I would like to visit again slowly So Shrine can be seen on the left

Sojinja Shrine It is one of the 38 shrines outside the precincts of Kamigamo Shrine Cat The four deities that are enshrined are Amaterasu Omikami’s son Tenho Hichi-no-Mikoto Hachiman Omikami Tenma Omikami and the spirits of Minamoto no Yoshitomo deities Shichiku Kifune Shrine can be seen on the left

Shichiku Kifune Shrine Setsusha of Kamigamo Shrine This is a very well-maintained approach The enshrined deity is Takaokami-no-kami Kuga Shrine came into view Kuga Shrine This is also a shrine outside the boundaries of Kamigamo Shrine The enshrined deity is Yatagarasu There is a recommended shop to the left of this intersection Misono Bashi Sakai

This restaurant is famous for its cold noodles Of course cold noodles are also delicious My personal recommendation is Tenshinhan Please come and try it when you are nearby The fields will increase from around here Nishigamo vegetables are very delicious

Turn right at this intersection and you will find the Kyoto City Bus Nishigamo depot From this garage you can clearly see the boat shape of Gozan Okuribi I arrived at the north end of Daitokuji Street The north end of Daitokuji Street

Daitokuji Street
A north-south street that passes in front of Daitokuji Temple.
It is also called Old Omiya-dori or Shitiku-kaido in the area.
The street runs from Nishigamo in the north to Kenkun Dori in the south.
Although it is a residential area throughout,
The northern part of the street is a residential area where the countryside remains.
The southern part of the street is an area typical of Kyoto where Kyoto townhouses remain.
