【Japan Train Adventure】 Sushi Chef’s Epic Sake and Sushi Journey on Belmonta | From Toyama to Himi

Toyama Prefecture Shin-Takaoka Station Hello!! Thank you for watching today’s video. This time, we rode on the Belles Montagnes et Mer, commonly known as “Bel Monta,” a sightseeing train that is unique to Japan and has sushi restaurants on board.

Named after the French words for “beautiful mountains and sea,” the train offers stunning views in both directions. The departure point is Toyama Prefecture, near Kanazawa in the Hokuriku region. Heading to the charming port town of Himi, known for its abundant seafood. Now, the “Belmonta” has arrived, and everyone eagerly awaits.

The slightly luxurious and adorable train is not the starting point, so we quickly board. We will head towards the sea on a single track. ou can enjoy reserved seats for $6.05, which is $3.73 for adults and $2.32 for a ticket! Oh, there’s a bug joining the ride outside for free.

Let’s take our seats. Oh, a menu! Drinks on one side and food on the other. Exciting! The train halts abruptly. Hmm, it seems to be moving in the opposite direction. Why is that? And now it’s going the other way again.

It seems to follow a special route for this train. The seats are as shown. Traditional craft “Inami carving” is right next door. Let’s explore the train! Two-seaters four-seaters All charming. There are also seats facing the sea. The restroom is neatly renovated. Hands… oh? Ah, staggered timing.

Otherwise, quite ordinary. You can wash your hands outside. There are overhead racks. A retro fan. The hanging strap is inspired by “Takaoka copperware” and made of copper foil. The electric lights are stylish, with many patterns. Nice! Oh? Something has been brought over. Let’s order too!

Sushi, please. Sushi $14.78 Looking forward to it. And a “Local Sake Tasting Set” with three types: “Akebono,” “Wakakoma,” and “Naoya.” Comparison of sake drinks $10.91 So, let’s gather courage and have a toast with the person next to us! Nice! The essence of travel. It tastes even better!

Now, the sushi has arrived! “Bigeye Tuna,” “Japanese Flying Squid,” “Kelp-Pressed Mackerel,” “Cherry Salmon,” and “Sawara”—five pieces! What a beautiful view. Pouring soy sauce adds to the experience. Oh, delicious! The sake goes well too. “Bigeye Tuna” first. “Cherry Salmon.” Finally, “Kelp-Pressed Mackerel.” Time flies, but it was enjoyable!

This is the train from the famous manga in Japan, “Ninja Hattori-kun” Provides local explanations. The sea comes into view! Passing by the sea. Everyone is so excited! “Onnaiwa” which represents Himi. The train stops here for photos. With windows that open, it’s pleasant.

Departure! Everyone faces here from the “Rainbow Coast.” A leisurely train journey is enjoyable. Many people wave and welcome us! There are lots of fun things to do on board. This is a commemorative stamp card. While enjoying a traditional folk song event… It’s the end in no time.

What a cute retro train! There are also bicycle rentals. Face panel. From the station, I will take a bus and walk. A small observation deck offers a good view. The bridge we saw earlier had an unusual shape. Let’s explore the local seafood.

Truly a port town! Fresh “Kitokito” (dialect) is on display. The yellowtail is quite heavy! Seems alive… it’s heavy. Himi udon and Toyama prefecture beef bowl. Himi udon$4.86/Toyama prefecture beef bowl$10.42/”Onigiri” $1.25 Large and hard to grasp. Delicious! For dessert, we head to a Japanese-style place. Soft serve zenzai and shaved ice.

The return journey is on the “Belmonta” again. It was a great trip! Thank you for watching until the end. Please leave comments and likes! Thank you!

In this video, I’ll be sharing a uniquely Japanese experience aboard the “Sushi Train,” where you can enjoy freshly crafted sushi by skilled artisans, sipping on Japanese sake while overlooking the sea—a blissful moment that I had the pleasure of experiencing and want to share with all of you. This extraordinary journey comes at an incredibly affordable fare of only 530 yen, making it an exceptional value. I want to bring attention to this hidden gem that many may not know about. If you ever visit Japan, I highly recommend hopping on this train. For those residing in Japan, when you travel to the Hokuriku region, consider making a stop just before Kanazawa in Takaoka to fully indulge in this experience.

The train is named “Belles Montagnes et Mer” in French, meaning “Beautiful Mountains and Sea,” affectionately known as “Belmonta.” It’s worth noting that this train is possibly the only one in the world where skilled sushi chefs are always on board. I’m already looking forward to riding it again. If you have any other trains you’d like me to ride or questions, please feel free to leave a comment. Likes and channel subscriptions are truly motivating. Your small steps make a big impact! Thank you for your continued support!

  2. Beautiful, classic train. Loved the green exterior color of the coach and the architectural designs around the interior window frames. The carved wood art piece on the wall at 3:20 was beautiful, too. So nice that this train offers sushi and sake tasting. Japan has such an amazing train network. I hope to visit Japan one day and travel on its beautiful trains. Arigatougozaimasu for sharing your journey, and thanks for brightening my day with your video.👍
