The eastern end of Old Nijo-dori It is at the intersection with Senbon-dori There used to be a shrine here Shusse Inari Ruins There was a shrine called Shusse Inari here until 2012 When Emperor Goyozei visited Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Jurakudai Emperor Goyozei named this Inari shrine which was located in Jurakudai at the time Shusse Inari to represent Hideyoshi’s success in life During the Edo period it moved from the Jurakudai area to Senbon Kyu Nijo and is currently relocated to Ohara in Sakyo Ward Let’s start This area is a residential area and along the street there is a shopping district The shopping street is a bit lonely now but it used to be a lively shopping street where many people gathered The elevated track is JR Sagano Line Now about the old Nijo-dori and Taishi-Michi What existed in the first place was the Taishi-Michi Taishi-Michi is the approach to Uzumasa Koryuji Temple Koryuji Temple’s principal image is Prince Shotoku It was called the Taishi-Michi because it was the road to Prince Shotoku Regarding Taishi-michi, there is the old Nijo-dori Taishi-michi which we ran this time, and the new Taishi-michi Now the new Taishi-Michi is called Taishi-Michi So there is a road called “Old Nijo Dori which is part of the Old Taishi-Michi” and “New Taishi-Michi” It’s confusing Today we departed from Senbon Kyu Nijo Running along the old Nijo Dori which is part of the Old Taishi Road Once you finish running on Old Nijo-dori you will be heading to Uzumasa Koryuji Temple via Old Taishi-Michi It’s really confusing But he has a nice atmosphere around here and I love it Next about the old Nijo Dori It is not connected to Nijo Dori which used to run on this CH It is blocked at Nijo Castle etc The Nijo Street that I ran before is based on Nijo Oji in Heiankyo This old Nijo-dori street is different from where Nijo-oji was and has no relation to it But for some reason this road must have been named Old Nijo-dori Unfortunately although I did a lot of research I couldn’t find the reason The street on the south side of Old Nijo-dori is now called Taishi-Michi(street name) He also says the name of this intersection is Taishi-Michi (crossroads) There was an execution site in this area during the Edo period This is the downtown area now but it was apparently an execution site during the Edo period This area is the remains of the Nishidote execution ground This place used to be outside Odoi (outside Kyoto) It seems that many people were executed here It is now the cemetery of a nearby temple and there are no traces of the execution site This is the famous water Tsuboi and Tsuboi Jizo statue It is said that the well where the criminals who were executed at the execution site were given their final drink of water A Jizo statue was placed there to mourn the executed criminals Now the water in that well has dried up Turn right at this intersection and you will find Hanazono University We are almost at the end of Old Nijo Dori but there is one place to see here as well Japan Nazarene Church Hanazono Christian Church Here is the Kyoto Hanazono Church Aquarium which is operated by a church It is a freshwater fish aquarium There are rules for the tour so please check the website before going This road becomes the New Taishi Road This is where the old Nijo Dori ends From here we will run on the Old Taishi-Michi I want to go straight but there are no traffic lights so I will take a detour Lost on the road This was the old Taishi-Michi Konoshimani Amateru Mitama Shrine (Kaiko-No-Yashiro) is now in sight Konoshimani Amateru Mitama Shrine (Kaiko-No-Yashiro) Local people call it Kaiko-No-Yashiro It is called Kaiko-No-Yashiro because the god of sericulture is enshrined there The five deities enshrined in the main shrine are: Ameno-Minakanushi-No-Mikoto Ookuni-Tama-No-Kami Hohodemi-No-Mikoto Ugayaki-Fukiaezu-No-Mikoto and Ninigi-no-Mikoto It has been famous as a god of rain since ancient times It is also said to be a shrine that had connections with the Hata clan which had influence in this area since ancient times Three Pillar Torii This is a very rare torii gate that has become a hot topic as a power spot and a mystery spot This is Moto-Tadasu Pond In summer a ritual is held where water is poured over the ox and its feet are touched Here we meet up with Sanjo Dori This is the western end of Taishi-Michi including Old Nijo Street The west end of Taishi-Michi including Old Nijo Street Since we have been running along the Taishi-Michi let’s take the opportunity to visit Uzumasa Koryuji Temple This is said to be the first famous statue of Miroku Bodhisattva as a national treasure This is not the principal image Also it seems to be kept in the treasure room not in the main hall Koryuji South Gate (Romon) The power of the Nio statue is amazing This is the Koryuji Temple auditorium It is an important cultural property building where you can see the architectural style of the Heian period Jogu-Ou-In Taishi Hall This is the main hall The statue of Prince Shotoku is enshrined as the principal image The principal image is a hidden Buddha and can only be seen on November 22nd This temple still has many attractions such as treasure houses Please come and take your time Thank you for watching See you in the next video

Hello everyone
Thank you for listening to Cycle Panda ch.
In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto,
which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard.
I ride my bike (and walk where I can’t) at a leisurely pace.
I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way.
Please take your time to take a look.

Old Nijo-Dori (Kyuunijo Dori)
A street that runs between Nakagyo Ward and Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City.
However, it is very difficult to understand,
Old Nijo-dori Street alone is a street in Nakagyo Ward.
The current old Nijo-dori street was once known as Taishi-michi Street.
It was the approach to Uzumasa Koryuji Temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City.
Former Nijo-dori is part of Taishi-michi, but this time we will introduce Taishi-michi as a whole.
The video also includes explanations about the former Nijo-dori Street and Taishi-michi Street.

Thank you for watching.
With this, old Nijo-Dori Pottering will end.
Thank you for watching this video,
I would be happy if you could learn about a side of Kyoto that you don’t know about.
We look forward to seeing you again in the next video.
