The Best Bike Route in the Philippines? | Audax Siargao 200 KM Ride Vlog and Travel Tips (ENG SUBS)

If you want to join Audax with the best views, then join Audax Siargao! Siargao was recognized as the Best Island in Asia by Conde Nast Travelers in 2021. And best island in the world in 2019. Siargao first became famous for its surfing waves. But, not only can you surf and visit beaches here,

You can also ride a bike! And you will see in this video, why I think Siargao is one of the best Audax routes in the Philippines. The first Audax Siargao was held in 2022 with nearly 90 cyclists participating.

This 2023, Chaz and I will be among the 197 cyclists who will circle the paradise of Siargao. But before I show you the beautiful route of Audax Siargao, how we got there, the beautiful sights you can see in Siargao, and some tips on bringing a bike here, I just want to ask,

Have you subscribed to Jangan Bikes? If you love bike adventures, bike trips and tips, like and subscribe here, so you’ll be the first to see my new videos! And follow me on Jangan Bikes on Instagram and Tiktok We flew from Manila straight to Siargao on Philippine Airlines.

We packed the bikes in Nooyah BK002 Hard Cases. Stay tuned for my gear review and tutorial on how to use it. We took the Airbnb in the town of General Luna because that is also where the Audax ride begins and ends. It started at Cloud 9 surf beach, and ended at SOS Gym.

General Luna is also the main tourist area of Siargao. And we chose that Airbnb because the price is worth it for its location and the size of the unit. It even has a front porch where you can fix and clean bikes.

We brought a lot of stuff and General Luna is 30 KM from Sayak Airport which is why we rented a car to get to our Airbnb. We also took advantage of the 24 hour car rental to go around some tourist spots in Siargao such as: famous Magpupungko Rock Formations, Maasin River Cruise,

And Secret Beach. For the next two days, we worked first and went on a food trip. There are so many delicious restaurants in Siargao. We have also used this time to prepare the bikes. To prepare the bikes we brought Allen Keys or Hex Keys, and Torque Wrench to tighten the bolts correctly.

When the bikes are taken out of the bike bag, the handlebar will be fixed first because it was removed. Nooyah bike cases have styrofoam tubes to wrap around the top tube and fork But, this is second hand. And Styrofoam was no longer included. So I used some bubble wrap.

Then you can put the wheels then align the handlebar. One of the best value for money items we’ve bought for the bike is this Xiaomi electric pump. It’s small compared to carrying a track pump on the plane, you don’t have to tire of putting air in your tires,

And best of all, the pressure is just right. Look out for my upcoming gear review here. I just had a little problem with the tubeless valve of my rear tire. It’s not sealed so the air comes out. I couldn’t find an extra valve so I just put an inner tube on it.

Fortunately, I found this out before Audax itself. It’s harder to have problems on the road. What would you do if this happened to you? Just comment below! Good morning, Chaz Chaz: Good morning! On our way to the Start of Audax Siargao

On the day of Audax, we arrived on Cloud 9 at 5:15 AM for the 5:30 AM start. The crowd is very small compared to other Audax that I have participated in. With few people, Carmela Pearson didn’t need to use a megaphone for her announcements. Carmela Pearson: Audax Siargao

Would not be possible if not for Motorace. The participants in the Audax 200 have to ride one and a half laps of Siargao with a total distance of 205 KM. If participating in Populaire, only one cycle is needed to make 130 KM.

The terrain of Siargao is rolling. Expect lots of lime and mortar. We have six checkpoints to go through for the Audax 200. First at KM 62.3 in Burgos. Second at KM 95 in Del Carmen Municipal Hall Third at KM 117.4 in Dapa. After this, we will enter the half-loop of Siargao.

Fourth checkpoint at KM 152.8 in San Isidro Fifth at KM 166.8 at Del Carmen Municipal Hall again And the last checkpoint, at KM 189.2 in Dapa. The sun had just risen when we started and the colors around were beautiful. The road outside the town of General Luna is bumpy

So cyclists pass everywhere to avoid it. But after leaving the town, the road is smooth. We first passed through the eastern part of Siargao. And for me, here are the best views. At just KM 19, you will arrive at the famous Coconut Plantation View. Many people stopped here to take pictures.

Other riders already have a checkpoint. There are also no Human Drones that first became famous here. But don’t worry, we’ll come back here later. The Coconut Plantation Road followed immediately, and the Maasin River Cruise Next we passed the Paghungawan Marsh at KM 31. Then we entered the town of Pilar.

And the opening of Magpupungko at KM 39. The town of San Isidro followed and we arrived at this small mountain leading to Pacifico. This big group behind Chaz, missed a turn in San Isidro and went straight. So here, they are back on the right route.

At KM 50 we reached Pacifico Beach which was really beautiful. This is one of the places where those who want to get away from the crowds in Genera Luna go. Chaz: Wooooow! Man: Amazing, ma’am? Chaz: Yes! If you know Audax, it’s a big group ride.

It started in France and is doing it all over the world. There are different distances: there is 200 KM, the shortest, there are 300 KM, 400 KM and 600 KM. And when you do all those distances in an Audax seaon you are qualified to join the 1200 KM ride in Paris-Brest-Paris, or PBP.

The Audax, is not a race. Each ride only has a time limit for you to qualify as a Finisher on that ride. But sometimes there are people who want to race the Audax. They cannot be stopped. But, it is said at the beginning of each ride that Audax is not a race.

And here in Siargao, you will feel more that it is not a race because the views are so beautiful! When you ride a bike fast, it seems like you can’t get the most out of the whole experience. So like this, we are only touristy pace so we can see this view.

There is the Pacific Ocean. Do you see the waves? I don’t see you on GoPro. But oh, it’s beautiful. This climb is tough. Bong, who is a colleague of ours at RCC (Rapha Cycling Club) Manila, was here with us. His story was that PBP was his last long ride before this Audax Siargao.

Bong: After France, nothing. Ah, si you joined PBP? Bong: Yeah, Popong is with me. Chaz: What is this??? How was it? How was PBP? Bong: I finished, but went…overtime. It’s great that you still finished! Bong: I crashed. Bong: I fell asleep. Bong: My RD was cut off. Oh, that’s hard.

Bong: Yeah I did single speed. Bong: (PBP is a mental game) But it’s true, Jangan: It looks like it. Bong: Because there are people at 1,150 KM (just the last 50 KM) who quit. Chaz: Really? Give up really. Bong: But in 2019 I only did up to 450 KM.

Bong: Some people talk about having hallucinations. Bong: I didn’t believe it! Bong: Then I experienced it! My lawyer and doctor companions were laughing. They said, who are you yelling at? It’s next to me. This is the first checkpoint. If in other Audax where more people have a QR code,

Here is still the old school, traditional Brevet Card that you have to sign at the control point. Chaz: You know, I get it for surfers just because it’s an island with different surf spots. Jangan: Yes, there are many surf spots. Chaz: first the chicken crossed him, then the dog crossed him.

These views, after the first checkpoint at Kolekbibo in Burgos, Siargao. Audax organizers chose Kolekbibo to help them as a local restaurant that served as a food bank when Typhoon Odette hit Siargao. Well now, thanks to the help from many people, Siargao has almost recovered from the damage of Odette.

At KM 82, I stopped at a beautiful view of the vast Bakawan or Mangrove Forest in Del Carmen. Its area is 8,260 hectares. And this is the largest contiguous mangrove forest in the Philippines. 27 of the 40 types of mangroves in the country are found here. So amazing! Checkpoint Two It’s wet hehe.

Even though the weather was nice earlier, it suddenly started to rain. Suddenly it rained as we left Checkpoint Two here in Del Carmen. Solid. The raindrops are so big! It was just a different time when we were there in Siargao. After this rain, look, suddenly the sun will come out.

Almost the entire route has wide roads and there are almost no cars. But it’s really crowded in the towns of Del Carmen, General Luna and especially here in Dapa. Checkpoint Three We have already looped Siargao, that’s about (correction: 120 KM).

We are here now in the half loop of Siargao to complete the Audax distance of 205 KM. This is the one I went to the Coconut View Deck this morning. You can see now that because the riders have split up,

Chaz and I are the only ones here and there is another group ahead. Jangan: What? Chaz: Stop? There’s nothing now. And here are the Human Drones in action. Here, let me show you a sample of their works: Rest under shade first. Eat a gel. Drink water. Chaz: Hot. Jangan: What. Chaz: Hot.

We are here again at Magpupungko. It’s like going to the beach right now. The sun is very hot. A while ago the beach was open and we saw some cyclists sleeping under a coconut tree. I was a little jealous. But, we prefer to go straight to finish early. Maybe next time

We can bike here and stop at the more open beaches here, which are so many. The fun is that almost… …there are almost no cars here and that is the best reason to join Audax Siargao especially if you are from Metro Manila which is full of cars, always traffic. Here… It’s almost paradise.

Siargao is almost a paradise because even though it is very beautiful, medical services are still lacking. There are plans to improve the hospitals here but they haven’t really been finished at the time of this recording. So now, it’s hard to have an accident or get sick in Siargao.

Care must be taken in the midst of all the fun. Chaz: Four. Jangan: Checkpoint Four. From here, we accompanied two Rapha Cycling Club Manila members, Popong and Micar. Checkpoint Five. Del Carmen again. My Brevet Card is torn to shreds. It got wet earlier with rain. Last checkpoint is before the Finish!

3:28 PM we reached the last checkpoint in Dapa. From here, we went straight back to General Luna. This is our Home Stretch. Last 13 KM. Earlier, for our half loop, we turned left here. But today, going to General Luna, we will go straight here for the Finish Line at the SOS Gym.

Last climb! We are here at the Finish! We are done. We will submit the Brevet Card. We finished at 4:21 PM with a time of 10 hours and 51 minutes. It’s time to experience and savor the wonderful route of Audax Siargao.

There is a meal stub with him and he is here at JT’s Manukan. All the Finishers are here. Nice. Barbecue Chicken. Exactly what I needed. This is the best post-Audax meal. Thanks JT’s After eating we returned to the Airbnb. But our Siargao trip did not end here.

The following day, we joined a Joiners island hopping group. And we went around Corregidor Island, Naked Island, had lunch at Daku Island, and ended our tour that afternoon at Guyam Island. We did not bring our own drone.

The tour package already includes the guides, using their drones, to take photos and videos of all the guests. Well worth it! We went to a lot more after that day, so subscribe because I’ll put that in my Siargao travel vlog. It’s cool that we were able to join the same Joiners group

As RCC Bacolod who also joined Audax the previous day. Shout out to you guys! I hope I can visit Bacolod again and ride with you.

I’ve always just heard and read about the beauty of Siargao. Now, I was finally able to experience it. Check out my video on the Audax Siargao 200 KM ride where I discuss the route, show sights to be seen and list down some of my tips on how to travel with a bike.

Thank you to Chaz Garcia-Angan for additional footage used in this video.
