Okinawa, Ishigaki, Hateruma 4 nights, 5 days solo trip Personally, the perfect place for a solo trip This is “Island Time” Company employee, solo female traveler Okinawa, Ishigaki, and Hateruma #2 Nice to meet you or hello! This is what I’m like!

Here is the itinerary for this trip. If you have any recommendations for Hateruma, please let me know 🙂 I’m going to ride a bicycle and semi-circle the island on the red-lined route! Now! Since I’ve arrived at Hateruma Island, I’ll explore the island with my electric bike! Really, no one around. Laugh

A kid goat was stuck in a ditch. When the parent calls, the kid returns, so they are not tied. Hateruma apparently means “End of the Ryukyus.” The kanji seems to have been added later. There are goats everywhere. Laugh. Probably, there are more goats than people in Hateruma.

I’ve arrived near my destination, so I’ll park the bike and walk from here. It seems it’s okay to leave the bike without locking it. This southernmost monument was built by a student who visited Hateruma Island before Okinawa was returned from the U.S. in 1972.

I wonder what feelings they had when they built this in the year of Okinawa’s return. In addition to this southernmost monument, there are two more monuments on this Cape called Takanazaki—The Peace Monument and the Hateruma Monument. This is the third monument.

Probably, this cliff and the famous beach I’ll visit later are the two major attractions in Hateruma. There were people here. There are only about five of us, including myself, in this vast land. Laugh

The reason I like Hateruma is that there are not too many must-see places, and there are no activities that I must do. I’m usually impatient and stingy, so I tend to fill my schedule with “since I came all the way,” but here seems relaxed.

Ishigaki and Iriomote have too many tourist attractions and attractive activities, so I end up being busy moving around in 2 or 3 days. Hateruma was good for me. There are many tropical-like plants, but I have no idea about plants…

The average annual temperature on Hateruma Island is 24 degrees Celsius. Even in mid-winter, the minimum temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius… Well, plants that I don’t see on the mainland must grow here.

The tip of the cape becomes a cliff. Hateruma Island is made of Ryukyu limestone, originally formed by the uplift of coral reefs. The waves may be calm, but it doesn’t feel very tropical on the cliff. Laugh Be careful near the cliff as it’s difficult to walk on the limestone.

Near the southernmost monument, there is an astronomical observation tower. The tower can’t be used due to aging, but Hateruma is also known for its stars. Of the 88 constellations, 84 can be observed in Hateruma. The Southern Cross, the Milky Way, and shooting stars can also be seen.

It seems you can see them individually, but since there are no streetlights at night and it’s pitch dark and scary, I plan to join a tour later. Kids’ goats are everywhere on the island.

Sometimes there are paths that look like animal trails (there’s a bench, so it’s definitely for people), but it’s too deserted, and I’m scared to explore. Impressive tomb… Tire tracks as if drifting in front of ancestors Since there was a road leading to the sea (or rather a cliff), I peeked out.

After all, the waves seem calm overall. Although kid goats are not like that, adult goats are friendly, and when you get off the bike, they come quite close. After circling the island, I returned to the port where I first arrived on the island.

It was about an hour and a half of leisurely cycling. It was good exercise. Now, I’ve arrived at Nishi Beach, said to be the most beautiful beach on the island. The island’s beach is pure white coral, and the “Hateruma Blue” sea spreads out in front of you.

Even if it’s cloudy, it’s this color, and when it’s sunny, it’s a beautiful blue. And there were quite a few people at this time. Laugh The sun came out a little while I was relaxing 🙂 Ah, I’m glad I came. In the afternoon, I’ll just laze around on the beach.

I want to head to lunch, but it seems that there are not so many restaurants on the island. This is a list of izakayas posted at the inn, five on the island. I’m searching for the restaurants listed at the inn and the ones on Google Maps one by one… Closed… Closed here too…

The bar I went to as a last resort is, of course, closed. At a place called Kyodo Baicho, which sells groceries, they had lunch boxes, so I bought a loco moco bowl.

There are no convenience stores or supermarkets on Hateruma Island, and there are only five community stores that sell daily necessities and groceries. Except for the largest store, the other stores close around 12-3 pm, and if you’re unlucky, you might really run out of food.

This is the largest Naseki community store on the island that is open during lunch. It really helped me later. Ate lunch at the inn and went back to the sea with snorkeling gear rented at the inn.

Before going to the beach, there is a scenic point for the “Hateruma Blue” that my friend told me about, so I’ll check it out. Through the parking lot of the port, or rather, between the boat berths…

Climbing this tree branch and going up the breakwater. ※Dangerous. It is not a recommended passage, so do it at your own risk. I’m scared of heights, and I’m also scared of tetrapods, so I walk while experiencing the most frightening experience. (Please be careful not to take videos while walking><)

At the end of the walk, there was a wonderful blue that made me think it was worth coming. Since it’s cloudy, this is the view. If it were sunny, it would be an incredible scenery. I safely returned to the beach without tetrapods.

I bought a seat in Ishigaki Island, and it was really useful. Depending on the tide, Nishi Beach is quite shallow and the waves are calm, so beginners can enjoy it relatively easily. The transparency is amazing, and there are plenty of fish in the shallows.

If you know the tricks, you can almost certainly see sea turtles. I heard the tricks on the last day, so I couldn’t see them, but most people saw them and were shocked when they found out later.

Looking at the entire sea from the beach, sea turtles appear every 5-10 minutes, so if you swim towards that spot, you can almost certainly see them. I went to the place I saw on the net, so I couldn’t see them. Turtles move around, after all…

It’s incredibly cloudy, but the color of the sea is mysterious emerald green.

Besides me, there were 3-4 women who seemed to be traveling alone on the beach. It’s highly recommended for a leisurely time since there are few people around. 72 00:10:00:04 –> 00:10:07:03 There are enough people, and it seems safe to sleep a little, so I took a nap. 73 00:10:07:03 –> 00:10:13:02 There is a shower room at Nishi Beach, so I’ll take a quick shower and go for a village walk. 74 00:10:13:02 –> 00:10:19:01 There is also a space to put your belongings, which is really convenient. 75 00:10:21:02 –> 00:10:27:01 Houses are separated by Ishigaki-stacked coral stones, giving a sense of Okinawa. 76 00:10:27:01 –> 00:10:33:00 There are five villages on Hateruma Island. 77 00:10:33:00 –> 00:10:38:28 I found a manhole in the village. Hateruma style! 78 00:10:38:28 –> 00:10:44:27 As proof of my visit, I’ll put my foot in and take a picture. Laugh 79 00:10:46:20 –> 00:10:52:19 To Hateruma Sake Brewery, which produces bubbles called “Gen no sake.” 80 00:10:52:19 –> 00:10:58:18 Apparently, 90% of the production is consumed on the island, and it is difficult to purchase outside of Hateruma. 81 00:10:59:27 –> 00:11:05:28 Inside, they were also selling T-shirts and bags with bubble patterns. 82 00:11:05:28 –> 00:11:11:27 All the bubbles were sold out, and I couldn’t buy them. However, you can apparently buy a 100ml mini bottle at the village store. 83 00:11:11:27 –> 00:11:18:26 Japan’s southernmost post office. Everything, including the post office, police station, and school, is the southernmost in Japan on Hateruma. 84 00:11:19:26 –> 00:11:27:25 Well, it’s almost 6:00, so I thought it’s time to prepare for dinner… but, all the restaurants on the island are closed. 85 00:11:27:25 –> 00:11:33:24 Apparently, many people in Okinawa don’t work on weekends, and since it was May at this time, 86 00:11:33:24 –> 00:11:39:23 none of the restaurants were open after the busy Golden Week season… 87 00:11:39:23 –> 00:11:45:22 I was on Hateruma on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, but I never entered a restaurant. 88 00:11:45:22 –> 00:11:51:21 I cooperated with people at the same inn, called all the restaurants, and even went to them, but none were open. 89 00:11:51:21 –> 00:11:59:20 Since the Naseki community store here sells lunch boxes, I bought one for dinner, just like at lunch, and ate it with the people at the inn. 90 00:11:59:20 –> 00:12:05:22 Around 18:00, the store briefly sells sashimi, so both days, I camped out here around 18:00 and bought it. Laugh 91 00:12:05:22 –> 00:12:12:02 Both days, I camped out here around 18:00 and bought it. Laugh 92 00:12:12:02 –> 00:12:20:01 Even at the largest store, fresh food is about this much. Next to it, there were frozen foods, so I bought takoyaki. Laugh 93 00:12:20:01 –> 00:12:26:00 (Pictures are from another day) Like this, everyone brought what they bought at the store and had a meal together. 94 00:12:26:00 –> 00:12:31:29 I think sashimi was like 250 yen with this. 95 00:12:31:29 –> 00:12:37:28 Also, the bento and side dishes made by the restaurant were very helpful. 96 00:12:38:24 –> 00:12:46:07 Awamori highball, delicious. 97 00:12:46:07 –> 00:12:53:11 There were three guests staying that day, including me: a man in his 30s from Kansai, and a man in his 60s from Tohoku. There was also a woman in her 30s who left in the morning. 98 00:12:53:11 –> 00:13:03:14 Everyone was traveling alone and chose a plan without meals in a single room, so the atmosphere was just right, and it was very enjoyable. 99 00:13:03:14 –> 00:13:09:13 We were looking forward to the stars, and I had applied for the stargazing tour at the neighboring inn, but unfortunately, it was drizzling, and we couldn’t see any stars at all. 100 00:13:09:13 –> 00:13:15:12 I went to the neighboring inn, but they said, “It’s impossible today.” 101 00:13:15:12 –> 00:13:21:11 Decided to spend a relaxing night in the room. 102 00:13:21:11 –> 00:13:29:10 When I returned to the room, there was a gecko. As soon as I turned on the light, it went somewhere. 103 00:13:29:10 –> 00:13:35:09 Sorry for the messy room. Took a shower, and around 22:00, I lay down on the bed and fell asleep… 104 00:13:35:09 –> 00:13:41:09 And so, the first day on Hateruma ended! Next time again. 105 00:13:36:10 –> 00:13:41:09 Next time, Hateruma Day 2. 106 00:13:41:09 –> 00:13:46:08 Exploring a new beach. 107 00:13:46:08 –> 00:13:53:28 If you enjoyed the video, Subscribe to the channel, and please give it a thumbs up!
