In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto,
which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard.
I ride my bike (and walk where I can’t) at a leisurely pace.
I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way.

上立売通（かみだちうりどおり）
京都市北区上京区にある東西の通り。
西の端は馬代通で途中道は途切れ東の端は寺町通となる。
かつて上立売通と室町通との交差点付近で、
「立売」と言う露店の様な形態で商いをする人々が多くいました。
上立売通の名前はその「立売」が由来となっています。
室町時代頃は京都の街が上京と下京と大きく２つの街に分かれており、
この上立売通と室町通の交差点は「立売の辻」と呼ばれ上京の中心地とされていました。

Kamidachiuri Street
An east-west street in Kamigyo-ku, Kita-ku, Kyoto City.
The western end of the street is Badai-dori, and the eastern end is Teramachi-dori.
In the past, near the intersection of Kamidachiuri Dori and Muromachi Dori, there was a street called “Tachi-Uri” where people would sell their wares,
There used to be many people who sold goods in the form of stalls called “tachi-uri” near the intersection of Kamidachiuri Dori and Muromachi Dori.
The name “Kamidachiuri Dori” is derived from this “tachi-uri.
During the Muromachi period (1333-1573), the city of Kyoto was divided into two major districts, Kamigyo and Shimogyo,
The intersection of Kamitachiuri Dori and Muromachi Dori was called “Tachiuri no Tsuji” and was considered the center of Kamigyo.
