山陽鉄道時代に開業し、かつては別府鉄道も乗り入れしていたでゲソ。しかし別府鉄道が廃線になり、当時の国鉄単独の駅となったでゲソ。その廃線跡が遊歩道として整備され、駅南口から兵庫県立考古博物館まで行けるでゲソ。また、南口側には遺跡をイメージしたモニュメントがあるでゲソ。エレベーターは改札外に2機、改札内に2機あるでゲソ。
This station opened during the Sanyo Railway era and was once also served by the Befu Railway. However, it was closed and the station was operated solely by the Japanese National Railways. The abandoned railway line has been developed into a promenade, and you can walk from the south exit of the station to the Hyogo Prefectural Archaeological Museum. There is also a monument designed to resemble an ancient ruin on the south exit side. There are two elevators outside the concourse and two inside.
