あいのぬの Ay no NUNO
Isesaki Meisen are colourful and playful kimonos. Isesaki City in Gunma Prefecture, where I was born and grew up, used to be a production centre for meisen, but half a century ago the traditional craft declined and there were no successors or makers. I felt sad that the culture of my hometown was being lost, so I started the brand Ay, which transforms meisen into new garments through upcycling. For the past three and a half years, we have been offering upcycled garments made from Isesaki meisen, but unfortunately the production of meisen has become difficult and we are facing a crisis where there will eventually be nothing left to use.
Therefore, the 24spring/summer collection will showcase the ‘Ay no NUNO’ series. Inspired by Meisen patterns, we have developed an original textile using modern technology. This is not Meisen itself, but our interpretation and design, but we have tried to express it in a new way while keeping the characteristic patterns of Meisen. The textiles are made into garments with Ay’s unique design, and we produced a one-piece dress with a rich three-dimensional jacquard weave and a separate yukata that reproduces the bold colours of Meisen using printing techniques.

伊勢崎銘仙は、色鮮やかで遊び心あふれる着物です。私が生まれ育った群馬県伊勢崎市は、かつてこの銘仙の産地でしたが、半世紀前にその伝統工芸は衰退し、後継者もおらず作り手がいない状況となりました。 郷里の文化が失われつつある現状に哀しみを覚え、私は銘仙のアップサイクルを通じて新たな衣服に生まれ変わらせるブランドAyを興しました。これまでの3年半、伊勢崎銘仙を使用したアップサイクル衣服を提供してきましたが、残念ながら銘仙の生産は困難となり、いずれは使えるものがなくなる危機に立ち向かっています。
そこで、24spring/summer collectionでは「あいのぬの」シリーズを披露いたします。立体感豊かなジャガード織りでワンピースを製作し、またプリント技術で銘仙の大胆な色使いを再現したセパレート浴衣を生み出しました。

「あいのぬの」
銘仙の柄からインスピレーションを得て、現代技術でオリジナルテキスタイルを開発しました。これは銘仙そのものではなく、私たちの解釈とデザインによるものですが、銘仙の特徴的な柄を保ちながら新たな表現を試みました。

銘仙の柄をデータ化
明治〜昭和初期に織られた銘仙は、独特な柄パターンを持っています。幾何学模様や抽象柄、そして鮮やかな色彩。それらのパターンをデータとして保存します。そのデータをさまざまな現代技術を駆使し、現代の表現を追求します。
ジャガード織で立体表現
群馬県桐生市にある織工場と連携し、ジャガードの多重織を活かし立体的で上質な風合いを演出します。カットジャガードを用いることで、銘仙の絣を立体表現しました。
