京都ポタリング 通りの端から端まで走る! #31 御幸町通 #京都 #ポタリング #自転車

The southern end of Gokomachi-dori
The southern end of Gokomachi-dori is Gojo-dori
"Gokomachi"
Let’s start
The origin of the name Gokomachi-dori
There is a theory that Toyotomi Hideyoshi used it to visit the Imperial Palace from Osaka and Fushimi
But it seems like we don’t really know much about it
Kyoto Municipal Museum of School History came into view
Kyoto Municipal Museum of School History
This museum is located on the site of Kaichi Elementary School which was closed due to consolidation
In 1869 Japan’s first school district-based elementary school called Program Elementary School was established
It is a museum exhibiting its history and educational materials
This is Shijo Dori it’s lively
Many tourists were walking along Nishikikoji-dori today as well
There were a lot of people from overseas
The 1928 Building came into view
This is "1928 Building"
As the name suggests this is a building built in 1928
It was originally used as the Kyoto branch office of Osaka Mainichi Shimbun
After the branch office moved in 1998 it has been used as a gallery restaurant and theater
At the theater a play without dialogue called ”GEAR” is being performed and is very popular
10 soba came into view
As I introduced before it is a self-service soba restaurant
Cheap and delicious restaurant
Personally I recommend his soba with chilled fox tempura and shrimp kakiage
There is a wide variety of menus so start with Zaru Soba
The store is managed by Yojiya the oil blotting paper company
The combination of soba and oil blotting paper is something I don’t understand
I went to Oike-dori but there was no traffic light so I crossed the street straight to the west at the Fuyamachi-dori traffic light
I returned to Gokomachi-dori
A brick church came into view
This is Japan Christian Association Kyoto Gokomachi Church
It was built in 1913 by William Merrell Vories famous for Vories architecture
Designated as a tangible cultural property of Kyoto City
日It seems that public tours are accepted during Sunday services
I would love to see the inside too
I arrived at the north end of Gokomachi-dori
The north end of Gokomachi-dori
The northern end of Gokomachi-dori is Marutamachi-dori
This forest is Kyoto Gyoen National Garden

Hello everyone
Thank you for listening to Cycle Panda ch.
In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto,
which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard.
I ride my bike (and walk where I can’t) at a leisurely pace.
I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way.
Please take your time to take a look.

Gokomachi Street
Street between Nakagyo and Shimogyo wards of Kyoto City.
It did not exist during the Heian-kyo period and was created by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Tensho land division.
It runs north-south through the heart of downtown Kyoto, but is not the main street,
It is not a main street, so there are not that many pedestrians and it is easy to ride a bicycle on it.
There are also many old buildings remaining,
There is also a church designed by architect William Merrell Vories.

ご視聴いただきありがとうございました。
