Toba, Mie prefecture
We are at the Isewan Ferry terminal in Toba, from where we intend to take a boat over to Irago in Aichi prefecture.
Information on the ferry service is available on the Isewan Ferry website (Please see link in Description).
The crossing from Toba to Irago takes 1 hour, and the number of sailings per day varies according to the time of year.
At the time of filming (early April), there are 8 sailings in each direction, rising to a maximum of 13 during peak periods.
We are approaching the port of Irago, which is located on the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula in Aichi prefecture.
We are walking down to Atsumi Cycling Road, which runs parallel to the coast.
This is the Ise Bay Vessel Traffic Service Center, a coastguard facility. Public entry is forbidden, except on official open days.
A monument dedicated to classical Japanese poetry.
Cape Irago Lighthouse, built in 1929.
Selected by members of the public as one of Japan’s 50 best lighthouses in 1998.
Cape Irago – known in Japanese as Iragomisaki – is located at the western end of the Atsumi Peninsula
in southern Aichi Prefecture.
Koijigahama Beach, which means "beach of the love path", is, as the name suggests, a renowned romantic spot
It has been selected as one of Japan’s best 100 beaches.
Visitors attach a romantic message to this fence with a padlock.

A monument to the poem "Coconut" by Toson Shimazaki (1872-1943).
Visitors to the Irago area should not miss the "Hii no Sekimon" ("Sunrise Stone Gates").
As the name suggests, this is a spectacular spot from which to view the sun rising behind the rocks.
"Hii no Sekimon" comprises two rocks, namely "Oki no Sekimon" just offshore, and this onshore rock, "Kishi no Sekimon" .
On blustery days. rough seas sometimes cause the cancellation of ferry services, like today’s crossings to Kamishima.
We have arrived at Atsumi Fish Market in time to watch some of the local boats unloading their catch.

That’s our ferry, so it’s time to get back to Irago terminal for the return journey to Toba.
