大宇陀西部に位置する本郷には、樹齢300年とも言われる見事な枝垂れ桜があります。「本郷の瀧桜」と呼ばれるほか、戦国武将「後藤又兵衛」の伝説と後藤家の屋敷跡にあることから「又兵衛桜」とも呼ばれ親しまれるようになりました。高さ13m、幹周り3mを超えるこの桜の巨木は、大きな枝を広げ薄桃色の花をいっぱいに咲かせるその姿は非常に存在感があります。(ホームページから引用)

Hongo, located in the western part of Daewoo, is home to a magnificent weeping cherry tree said to be 300 years old. It is called “Hongo no Takizakura,” or “Hongo’s Waterfall Cherry Blossom,” and is also known as “Matabei Sakura” because of the legend of the warlord “Goto Matabei” and its location on the site of the Goto family’s mansion. This huge cherry tree, with a height of 13 m and a trunk circumference of over 3 m, has a very strong presence with its large branches and light pink flowers. (quoted from the website)
