it is uh the sixth year of

Lea being the current Imperial
era
and on the first of the
month the

1st Noto
HTO
earthquake occurred in each Cola
prefecture notto honto Peninsula the
very tip
there the first strong earthquake of the
day occurred I don’t know around 400
p.m. I think it was between the 5 and a
6 six but the was
followed 10 or 15 minutes
later
by the
second much stronger
7.6
Quake that
caused
extensive
damage uh throughout that
area um in neighboring Toyama prefecture
and uh also here in parts of nigata
including the
city
um I was down in the general area at the
time leaving a 3-day
tour having
met uh the the
guests in uh
Isa on the
31st at Kaz
station
we had a
driver meet us at the station and from
there went to
shirakawa Village in
pecture it’s the UNESCO world
heritage site
um
boasting
over50 believe the number is maybe
190 thatch
roof uh
houses some of
them is old as 300 years uh going back
to
the midle of the 80
herea
