小笠原諸島 30分で振り返る5泊6日の旅(総集編)

To Bonin Islands, 5 nights 6 days trip. Watch it in a re-edited 30 minute video! 7 min walk from Hamamatsucho station. Arrival at the Tokyo Port. The only transportation to Bonin Islands. Ferry “Ogasawara Maru” Ogasawara is “Bonin” in English. 11:00 a.m. Departure on time. 24 hours to Bonin. The long voyage has begun.

To the cabin. “Special 2nd class sleeper” $285. Bunk beds in a large room. Lights, TV, etc. on bunks. To restaurant. Hamburger steak set meal, $9. Rest area and information desk. Various facilities on board. There is a store and vending machines. Briefing on Bonin tourism. Let’s take a look at the other cabins.

“2nd class sleeper” $215. “2nd class” $190. Observation lounge for a light meal. Pacific Ocean at dusk. Cloudy sky, no sunset. The sun has set. Hahajima mackere cutlet set meal, $10. Moon in the sky. Blue sky. Pacific Ocean to the south. A guide explains about the islands. The islands are coming into view. This is Chichijima in the Bonin Islands. Arriving at the port. People and staff welcoming us. Line from the ferry to the wharf. 11:00 a.m. arrival on time. Let’s disembark. Disembarkation to the ramp.

Landing on Chichijima. Next sailing in three days. At least 3 nights required. Out of the waiting area. Around the port, lots of accommodations and restaurants. Pokemon manhole dedicated to Bonin. Bike rental: $50 for 4 days. Bike ride 5 min. Arrive at hotel “Pat Inn.” Hotel’s common space. One night with breakfast for $130.

The guest room wing is here. This is my room. It was a cozy space. The design is sophisticated. Bathroom is stylish too. Bike ride to the observation deck. Whales can be seen from land. And the sunset. It was a good time. Let’s have dinner. Bonin specialties: sea turtle cuisine and island sushi.

Stop at the port and go to the hotel. Breakfast at hotel restaurant. Lots of island produce. Today I went to Hahajima for a day trip. 2 hours on the Kuroshio Maru. Let’s get on board. The fare is $35 one way. All seats are unreserved. 7:30 a.m. departure on time. Ogasawara Maru at anchor.

Outside deck. Binoculars at your disposal. Sighting of some whales. Beautiful weather today. You can lie down in a large room. Few passengers. Hahajima comes into view. The terrain is long and narrow from north to south. To the wharf. Steam whistle. Line and rope from ferry. Docking. 9:30 a.m. arrival on time. Disembarkation.

Need to prevent invasive species. It’s different from Chichijima. Male blue rock-thrush. Rental bike, $25 for 4 hours. Lots of spots with spectacular views. Ruins of an elementary school. The school closed 80 years ago. Now it’s a subtropical jungle. To the ruins of the cannons. Be careful not to get lost.

Ruins of three cannons in this area. It is rare for a cannon barrel to be extant. Lunch is a Island sashimi bowl, $80. The only school on the island. The only clinic on the island. The only museum on the island. Exhibit on the history and culture of the island.

Return the bike and walk to the harbor. Stopping at a shrine. Here on the hill. Down the hill is the harbor. Let’s get on board. Sailing at 2:00 p.m. The islanders see us off. I were only there for four hours. But I fell in love with this island so much!

I want to stay longer next time. Thank you Hahajima! Morning on Chichijima again. Breakfast on the hotel terrace. Female blue rock-thrush. Lunch box for $7. Whale watching today. Tour company drives us to the pier. Tour around Chichijima. 20 minutes by boat. Humpback whales squirming Some powerful jumps. And snorkeling.

I also swam with a dolphin! Lunch while watching the whales. Mother whale and baby whale. Whale can get as close as 100 meters. We also visit Heart Rock in the southern part of Chichijima. Return to port before evening. Dinner at hotel. Night sky over Chichijima. Some stars not visible in Tokyo.

Last morning in Bonin. Biking to the observatory. Sunrise from the Pacific Ocean. The weather was always good on Chichijima. The morning sun illuminates the island. Back to the hotel. Ogasawara Maru and Kuroshio Maru. Last breakfast at the hotel. Three days, all different menus. I met it again this morning.

It was a great hotel. Explore the island until boarding the ferry. There are wild goats on the island. Unfortunately, they are subject to extermination. National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Lots of battle sites. These ruins… former Japanese power plant. Beautiful beach below the cliff. Trolley axles and… tunnel of a trolley.

This is another former Japanese military facility. Mt. Chuosan, the highest peak on Chichijima. Observatory at the summit. Spectacular 360-degree view. Ogasawara Maru. Copepe beach. Like a private beach. Lunch is a sashimi set meal for $10. To the harbor. Reunited with Ogasawara Maru. Embarkation. Feeling the loneliness… to the outside deck.

Many will not want to leave the island. 3:00 p.m. departure on time. People seeing off. Kindness of the islanders. Warmth of the islanders. Farewell whistle. I want to come back to this island again. I want to stay longer next time. I’m sure everyone thinks so. They see us off from the boats.

Children dive to see us off. Thank you, Bonin! I agree wholeheartedly. Arcing wake. One by one, the vessels return to port. Last boat. Who are those waving? They are the Coast Guard! That was very cool. Chichijima is moving away. I watched the ocean for a while. Whales also see us off.

It was a pleasant surprise. The cabin on the way back was a “Special room.” That costs $690. Expensive, but worth it. Comfortable bathroom. Special lounge available. Free massage chairs and drinks. Beautiful sunset. Sky tinged with a hint of light. Moon among clouds. Cod cutlet set meal for dinner, $10.

Bonin passion fruit cocktail is also delicious. Late night on board. Good night… Rain in the morning. Breakfast in the observation lounge. Passing off Hachijojima island. Outside deck off-limits due to rough weather. Lunch is daily pasta, $7. Mt. Fuji in the distance. Clear sky in the afternoon. Outside deck open.

Heading north on Tokyo Bay. Three flags mean “to Tokyo Port.” Passing offshore of Haneda Airport. And Rainbow Bridge. A unique view of the ship. The last highlight of the trip. Skyscrapers and Tokyo Tower. Feeling of being back in Tokyo. Docking. Line to wharf. Staff supporting the voyage. 4:20 p.m.

Arriving one hour and 20 minutes behind schedule. Ogasawara Maru. Next sailing is at 11:00 a.m. Aftermath of the trip To Bonin islands… Someday, surely again! Thank you for watching!
