They have aerials in Ukraine but not in Japan? Whats wrong with that picture. From reading the comments what about bucket trucks for the electricity? Many places with streets too small for full size ladder trucks use the bucket trucks with a handheld line. So much for surround and drown or is it spray and pray.
So the big issue seems to be the comparrison to American firefighting tactics compared to the Japanese. So start with no aerials. Yes American tower ladders(TLs), sticks and straight ladders are too big for the streets is true but what about the bucket trucks with handlines? No issues with the street size or oerhead power lines and water is supplied by the engine providing the line or hose or whatever you decide to call it. Then comes the amount of lines and water pressure. To be honest I cannot remember ever having that many small hand lines in operation in such a small area in my 45+ years. Fire load determines iine size and in this case there should be nothing smaller than a 2.5 inch(64mm) until the main body has been knocked down and then 1.75 inch(44mm). Then comes the comments about one of my favorite toys commonly known as the master blaster or Deck gun but without the water supply it would have been of little use. Yes it would have helped but then so would some well placed blitz fires and 2.5 nch lines and a good interior attack but we don't know what happened in the early stages. Someone made a comment about volunteers and poor powered pumps. When I was stationed in Japan back in 1988 we trained with the Tokyo department who had a volunteer corps who wore Green helmets and green and blue turnout gear and they trained and was as good as their paid counterparts and used the same equiptment so maybe things changed, I saw no green helmets here. And the running around comment while Americans run to the canteen. Americans are trained Not to run but some do and some don't. While I was there every fire was first hit with the reel or booster or aka trash or garbage line. I also saw alot of scald injures to victims and firefighters by water being applied before the structure was cleared but the mindset is get water on the fire fast with a line too small to do much in the initial attack phase. That is why Americans grab the 1.75.. So the fire is out without many injuries or deaths. Right. wrong or it could have been done other way aside they did te best they could and I am gad that it is not my departments that have the job of taking up all of that line.

Even though countries are all bery different, fire is the same no matter where you are. This one is a bad one.
They certainly needed water at the rear, and at least two elevated aerial devices
God bless the fearless firefighters
There is no water pressure sufficient to fight this fire. No aerial platform or ladder pipe, they may not even have such equipment!!

Don't you have air tanks and masks for your firemen there ? Men with hoses going inside might have helped here a lot !
Someone should tell these guys that you have to get water on the fire in order to put it out.

thats called a chinese fire drill.
we use dawn liquid dish soap in replace of CLASS foam.

Washing the outside does not put out the fire on the inside!
give it all you got in the front, boys – the rear will take care of itself.
Bomberos estáticos…Bomberos Inútiles….
