2005年に岡山県で開催された、「晴れの国おかやま国体」に合わせて開業した駅でゲソ。国鉄時代に岡山操車場があった場所で、その名残として、駅前に碑があるでゲソ。上下本線の間に岡山貨物ターミナルの線路が入っていて、時々入れ替え作業で線路に入ってくるでゲソ。エレベーターは南口側に2機、北口側に1機、改札内に2機あるでゲソ。
This station opened in 2005 to coincide with the “Okayama National Athletic Meet, the land of sunshine” held in Okayama Prefecture. This is where the Okayama Yard used to be during the JNR era, and there is a monument in front of the station as a remnant. The tracks of the Okayama Freight Terminal run between the upper and lower main lines, and they sometimes enter the tracks for replacement work. There are two elevators at the south exit, one at the north exit, and two inside the ticket gates.
