2024-02-07 Takatoge Climbing / 高峠・牧之原

Hi guys, this is Moto. This is the second time the ride video during this time staying in Japan. I was supposed to ride a long ride 220km & 3000m Up that I’ve been secretly warming up, but it’s cold and there’s a strong north wind, so I passed it this time.

I’ll try it when the weather is nicer. After returning to Japan, I realized that I could choose several climbing courses easily. It’s not as good as Fukuoka, but after a short run, I can create climbing courses. In Hanoi, the closest hill climb spot is 30km from my home,

But this time I started climbing immediately after riding 5km. As you can see from the Strava route map you saw at the beginning, the altitude is not high, but half of the route is mountainous and the other half is flat.

Osumi Peninsula is easy to cycle because there are few cars, but the roads in Japan are generally narrow, making it difficult to ride. Also, there are some places where the pavement is in poor condition, so I hope the local governments will do their best to allocate the budget for repairs.

It is good if there’s enough budget for cycle tourism. This time, as a reflection of last year’s Grand Colombiere and Kokonoe Aso rides, I brought my usual carbon wheels instead of the original wheels. My sprocket is a 9-speed 11-32T,

But I’m not the type to change gears often, so 9 gears is enough for me. I wish SORA’s STI lever was a little smaller, but I have no complaints about SORA. I had checked the convenience stores along the route in advance and included rest points in my plan,

But what shocked me at the convenience store was the size of the Anman(bean buns). When I was working in Japan, my overtime meal in the winter was Nikuman(meat buns), so I bought Anman(bean buns) for the first time in over a decade,

But it was so small that I thought, “This isn’t Yukimi Daifuku, right?” Dear Anman fans, are you satisfied with the size of Anman buns these days? I would like it to be a little bigger. Another thing that shocked me was the solar panel issue I saw on the internet news.

Was it a renewable energy tax and a forest environment tax? It’s a shame that people pay taxes like idiots and destroy the environment, or rather damage Japan’s beautiful scenery for the benefit of a few people. I would like it to be removed soon.

Kyushu is a rural area, so solar panels are covered up everywhere. This is a problem. So, I ended up complaining in the end, but I think the Osumi Peninsula has beautiful scenery and is easy to cycle around, so please come and visit. Thank you for watching until the end.

Next time we will be delivering a ride to Cape Sata.
