Mountain Biking in Japan! Some of Kiryu’s local trails in Gunma Prefecture, route linked below
I finally got to mountain bike in Japan there aren’t a lot of trails outside of dedicated downhill bike parks but these are some local trails in kiru in gumma prefecture I got to borrow a friend’s bike while I was there as you ride up the road to the trail head you’ll pass some logs growing cultivated
Mushrooms and wind your way through Forest growing Cedar and hokei lumber you can easily access this Forest Area from downtown kiru and you quickly go from Urban streets to Woods once you reach the top the fun really Begins the trails here were so fun and many were handbuilt by passionate cyclists wanting somewhere to ride I was beyond happy to be back on a mountain bike even just briefly these are for ringing to keep the bears away but bears are pretty rare in this area Goomba’s pretty cool thanks to Rob

I finally got to ride mountain bike trails in Japan! While in Kiryu, in Gunma Prefecture, I was able to borrow a friend’s bike and enjoy their growing trail system. It’s free, open to the public, and easy to get to from downtown!
There are some downhill bike park options in Japan, but less “cross country” style trails than what I’m used to back in the US. This was a fun reminder of days on the trails back in North Carolina! It made me miss riding in Pisgah and Dupont more than usual, but felt so good to be back on trails for a bit 🙂
