Queens of the Road: Girls’ Motorcycle Expedition in Alaska | Skagway to Haines – EP. 265

And we’re in! Back to Alaska. Just for two days. We only have six miles to Skagway, and that’s it! We have made it to Skagway. That’s Skagway River. There you go. It’s in a beautiful location, isn’t it? [Intro Music] Let’s do a spin around town so we know what’s where.

So here, I’ll be staying at my friend’s place. I think that the old town is there. And that looks like a nice area. Ooh! Cruise ship. Okay, let’s go left. Yeah, that looks like a nice part of town. Right. So I’m staying here at my friend’s apartment. Jim and Destiny. They’re actually in

Arizona now. I met them in Bisbee. So they’re not here, but they’re – Just, you know? They’re just like, ‘Just stay in our place.’ ‘It doesn’t matter we’re not here.’ So like, hey. Who am I to say no? Of course I will. This is cool. Look at this. Oh, wow.

So much is happening. Oh my God. I have to go for a walk. I think you’re supposed to go here. That’s… I think the directions I got from Jim. And… I think this one. I think this is it, Chillie. Now we have to read the instructions. How to get in.

I was so exhausted. I had to have a nap the moment I entered the apartment. Right. But now, it’s time to go for a walk and see what’s in town. Let’s do it. It’s 7:30 PM. And… And there’s no one here. The shops are closed. And it’s… Yeah. I’m so surprised because when I came here, it was so busy. And now it’s just like, no one on the street. I like it! Skagway is already asleep. Look at this. There’s like, no one on the street.

That’s insane! And at the end of town, we have… Port. That’s where the big ships are coming in. I’m guessing my ferry to Haines will be somewhere from here as well, tomorrow. But that’s tomorrow. Okay, let’s see the big ship. Wow. He’s big. Wow. So this was the main street. In 1897. This is how it started. Good morning. We’re about to meet up with the girls and catch a ferry to Haines. It’s gonna be a very social day. Got a beautiful weather. Just couldn’t be better. Looks like the city’s crowded again. Very different vibe than last night. Look at this. People everywhere.

All these guys must be from the cruise ship. Wow. That’s really crowded. Look at that. Okay. We are meeting here at the Red Onion Saloon. The legendary bar. Oh, wow. That’s insane. Here they are! Yeah. Hello! Hey, Kinga! [Jazmine] We made it! We’re meeting in another country! We are. How was the ride?

So fun! Right? So much fun and beautiful weather. Right, so we were hoping that we’re gonna have some lunch and a brothel tour here in Red Onion, but unfortunately, because of the amount of people here, it’s just impossible to get in. So,

We’re gonna do a little spin around town. Hopefully, we’re gonna find some quiet place. Jazmine! There’s just like, this truck thing! What’s that? Should we just go there? Yeah! Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Hi. Hello. We’re doing an introduction. So, you probably remember the girls from my episode when I was um… going through Whitehorse. So these girls are the Sinderellas. Jazmine and Caroline. And we’ve decided just to go together to…? Haines. Haines! Because there’s like… There’s a big party tonight in Haines, so.

What actually is going on there? It’s the State Fair. That’s right. That’s right. [Jazmine] I’ve never been to a State Fair. Well, there you go. It’s gonna be our first time. So we’re having something to eat, and then we’re gonna catch a ferry, and then that’s it!

We’re gonna check into our hotel and then we’re gonna party. That’s it. That will be – That’s the party for today. [Jazmine] Yeah, we are. We won’t look this good tomorrow. And the ferry, it’s only 45 minutes, right? [Kinga] Is it? Yeah. I think it’s quick. Where are we going now? Dyea. Dyea?

Dyea. Yeah. And what’s there? The ocean. The ocean. Sounds good. All right. [Caroline] The ocean. So we’re gonna go this way? Yes. Okay. Take a right like, down this road? Okay. We still have two hours to the ferry. That’s why we’re going for this little ride. To the beach. See what’s going on. Look at that! This is such a beautiful road! I’m glad we – We’re doing it. I would miss it! I would have no idea it’s here. Wow! That’s a great spot! And we have made it to this gorgeous spot! Look at this! Right? Right? Ready? Yeah. Time to go! We’re back to Skagway. And now we have to work out where the ferry is? Looks like the ferry is to the left. Crown Princess. There you go. That’s a big one. So we have three ships. Wow. No wonder there’s so many people. Look at this one. So massive. Oh no.

We’re too late! I mean, we are late. We just didn’t realize we have to be here one hour before. Oh my God. Okay. We’re getting in! Oh my God, that was so silly. All right. We’re in. I think it’s a bit windy! I think it’s a little windy. Little bit. We have a little bit of a breeze here! How’s my hair? Time to go! The ferry was only like forty- five minutes. It was a very pleasant ferry ride. And now… We’re in Haines! Wow. Look at this. That’s a beautiful location for a town, hey? Surrounded by mountains. Right on the ocean. Okay! That’s us! That’s our hotel. I’m guessing the parking is at the back. We made it! We didn’t die. Girls, are we ready? We are so ready! Are we ready to hit the town?

So we parked over – [Jazmine] Or is the town ready to hit us? Probably. Right? So, ah, yeah! So this is where we’re staying. This is where we’re camping tonight. We’re roughing it. Bikes are parked and we are ready to go to explore! Woo! Yeah, woo! Let’s explore. Woo! Woo. Woo! Woohoo!

Right. So where are we? Haines. We’re in Dalton. Dalton City. Dalton City. Apparently. Yes. Hello. Hi! Cheers! What’re we having? Woohoo! We’re having – A Stick O’ Fish. [Jazmine] A Stick O’ Fish. Stick O’Fish. And a Stick O’ Fish. Sounds good. What are you having, Kinga? Falafel. [Kinga] Uh, falafel. [Live Music] Okay! And just before we leave, turns out there is a parade. [Live Music] That was so much fun! So much fun. So much fun! Time to go back to the – To the ferry. Wow, look at this view. Stunning, right? Girls! I can do the work! We made it! We made it to Haines! We made it! Woo! It’s so beautiful here. All right. Okay. We’re nearly there. We’re nearly at the ferry. Today, we are not in trouble. We’re one hour ahead of time. And we’re first to go! Did you guys have fun? We did! It was fantastic! It’s time to leave Alaska for real! That’s it. No going back from now on. So we’ll be crossing back to Canada, and tonight, we’ll be hanging out at the motor camp close to Whitehorse. And guess who’s coming? Golnoosh from Terrace is on her way, so we’re gonna all catch up with her there.

It should be a good evening. Again. What a great weekend, honestly, with these girls. It was so cool to hang out with them. A-ha! Here they are! Number one! Number two is there. That’s me! And Chillie! Hello, neighbors! All fancy! I thought you’d be camping. No, we’re glamping today! How’s the room? Super cute, right? [Caroline] Good! It’s really nice in here! It’s really, really cute in here. [Kinga] I know! Look at that. Fancy. I know.

And that’s us. Golnoosh, I hope you don’t snore. This is where we’re staying. That’s us. It feels like I’ve never left. Back to the moto camp here in Yukon. Right. With a different company this time. Female only. Not that we discriminate. We have a neighbor here. Hello neighbor!

He’s staying in my old house. Are you sleeping on the left or on the right? I think on – Oh, you’re in my bed! So hello, everyone! Hello! Oh, you guys are so much fun. Okay, and then this one. Yes! Yay! [Outro Music] Do you want me to? Yeah, do it.

You look like she’s been to the heavy metal concert. [Outro Music]

There’s a lot good vibes and socialising in this episode. Yukon riders Jazmine and Caroline, known as the Sinderellas, have joined for a weekend ride from Skagway to Haines, Alaska. And oh boy, did we have fun!

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don’t know my final destination or the duration of this journey.

Throughout my journey, I’m raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: https://gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

  1. I went fishing for Halibut in Skagway inlet there, caught what is a 'small' 30 pound, they can be very huge! Also had fresh Halibut in a restaurant there, was amazing!

  2. I really enjoyed this episode, Kinga. The fun at the fair was straight-up Alaska! I like how you travel enjoying your solo adventures as well as your meet-ups with friends along the way. You're pretty cool!

  3. Hey! I'm in the last 30 seconds of this video! I'm the neighbour! Glad to have met you Kinga! Your sticker is in a place of honour on my top box! I still think of you whenever I have a Caesar! 🍹So great meeting you, The Sinderellas and Golnoosh! One of the highlights of my trip!
