Hello, this is ISchannel.

Located in Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, this inn is run by a member of the Japan Secret Hot Springs Preservation Association. It takes about 2 hours to get from Ueno to the nearest station, Yamagata-juku, by express train, and there is a shuttle service from Yamagata-juku Station to the inn. We would like to introduce Yunosawa Kosen, a hot spring located at an inn in the mountains of Okukuji, about 15 minutes by car.

The shooting date is December 27, 2023.

The location is 4.2 km from Yamagata-juku Station on the Suigun Line, and it takes 1 hour and 6 minutes to walk, so if you are staying overnight, please let us know the arrival train time at Yamakata-juku Station when making a reservation, and they will come and pick you up by car. .

From this prefectural road entrance sign, a winding mountain road continues. There is a tasteful signboard at the entrance from the mountain road. The mountains of Okukuji are cold, and the tropical banana tree planted at the entrance to the inn is withering.

When you go up the hill, you will reach the parking lot, and the parking lot looks like this. There is a pavilion in the parking lot, and the view from the pavilion is like this, and you can see a little of the golf course next door.

The building looks like this, it is a one-story building with no second floor. There is a price guide along the slope, and day trip bathing is also possible. The entrance looks like this, and you can feel the warmth of the wood and a somewhat nostalgic feeling.

On the left side is a lantern from the Japan Secret Hot Springs Preservation Society, and below it is an iron kettle hanging from a free hook.

Below that, there is a wooden bench and an ashtray, and to the left of the bench is a stone monument that says Meoto Ishiyu, which apparently describes the origin of Yunosawa Mineral Springs.

Although I can’t read the writing on the stone monument, Yunosawa Kosen has a history of more than 180 years, having opened in 1842 in 1842. He fell from a turret, and although he was examined by several doctors, he was not cured at all.One day, while he was sleeping, he received a message from God, so he dug in the spot indicated, boiled the water that came out, and went in, and he felt better. There is a legend that it was.

Above the plain red curtain is the certificate of membership of the Japan Secret Hot Springs Preservation Society. On the right side, there is a quaint sign written in an old font, and behind it is a Daikichi sign and a sign that says “We Are Open for Business with All Our Hearts.”

Let’s go inside. Immediately to the left as you enter, there is a large wooden shoe rack where you can store your shoes depending on the room you are staying in.

On top of the shoe rack is a wooden tengu mask and, I wonder where he got it, the old man’s tree signboard for Japanese sake from Morimoto Sen’emon Shoten in Mie Prefecture that catches my eye.

At the bottom right of the wooden signboard is a wooden shield with the title “100 Japanese Hotels and Inns Selected by Professionals”.

On the right side of the wooden signboard is a plaque that won 2nd place in the Ibaraki Prefecture 50 rooms or less category of the Jalan Net Ranking 2022 “Great Accommodation Award”.

On the left side of the wooden sign is a plaque that won 3rd place in the Class B Gourmet Championship sponsored by the Hitachiomiya City Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2016.

Immediately to the right as you enter, there is a potbelly stove, and depending on the time of day, there is a friendly and adorable dog.

The front of the entrance looks like this: on the left is information about the new menu, in the middle is information about this month’s recommended menu, and on the right is information about chiropractors, which currently require reservations.

Next to it is a concrete owl figurine, with the characters for Yunosawa carved into its body. There is a counter to the right of the entrance, and the counter looks like this. Photos and colored paper are displayed on the left side of the counter.

There are amenities at the bottom left of the counter, so you can only bring what you need. To the right of the counter, near the cash register, we sell some of our most recommended products.

In front of the counter, there is a lobby with sofas that can comfortably seat eight people. At the entrance to the lobby, there is a natural wood screen, and on the counter side, there are pictures of camellias in the style of picture letters and messages.

The lobby side is decorated with roses, picture letter style pictures and messages. Clothes are also sold at the lobby entrance. The entrance side of the lobby is divided by a lattice, and the lattice is decorated with paintings. Behind the sofa is information about free Wi-Fi and reading materials.

There are two tables in front of the sofa, one with newspapers and the other with magazines, tourist information, and notebooks. In the glass case on the right side of the lobby, there are toys that are nostalgic for old people from around the 1960s and are displayed inside the glass case.

On the left side, the upper row is decorated with American-style dolls, boats, and cars, the middle row is decorated with fire trucks, police cars, and airplanes, and the lower row is decorated with 0-series Shinkansen trains and Marumenko.

On the right side, the top row is decorated with tanks and cars, the middle row is decorated with motorcycles and trains, and the bottom row is decorated with other toys.

Railway enthusiasts may have noticed that both the Moha 102 series Yamanote Line train and the Kumoha 101 series JNR train written on the train box are incorrect in type and vehicle, giving a sense of the loose Showa era. Masu.

There are various things displayed on the shelves, and in the middle is a photo of the landlady and Mukona together. On the wall next to the lobby, there is a newspaper article that introduces Yunosawa Kosen.

There is a shop next to the counter, and the entrance is decorated with red chanchanko and a hairpin brooch. Folk art style souvenirs are lined up on the counter side. Along the wall to the right of the center are food items, alcohol, and drinks.

Above on the left side, there are dolls of a married couple in the style of Hyottoko and Okame, who are drinking a glass of Kujiyama local sake. The homemade yuzu miso that I was hooked on with piping hot konnyaku last year is also on sale.

We also sell secret bath shampoo, secret bath conditioner, and secret bath body soap that are available in the bathroom. There is a restroom on the left side. Let’s turn left. On the left is the massage room.

At the entrance, there is a booklet called Suigun 1000 that introduces the area along the Suigun Line. The inside looks like this: there are two coin-operated massage chairs lined up, and a Japanese sword is displayed on the right side as you enter.

There are two bathrooms on the right side, the front is a cypress bath and the back is a rock bath, and the genders change depending on the time. At the back of the bathroom entrance, there is a yukata and a chair for resting.

We have permission to take photos, so let’s take a look at the cypress bath in the foreground. There is a restroom on the right as soon as you enter the entrance, and there are two sinks lined up in front of the restroom.

Next to the bathroom, there is a water jug where you can drink cold water after taking a bath, and there is a paper cup on the left side. Below that, there is a trash can to throw away paper cups and an air purifier.

There is a long chair in the middle of the changing room, and on the right side there is a large mirror, hair dryer, tissues, and hot air heater. On the left side of the changing room are coin lockers and changing baskets.

It costs 100 yen to use the coin locker, but it will be returned to you after use.

Next to the coin locker, there is a hot spring analysis report, hot spring contraindications, indications, and bathing precautions. It is tasteless and odorless, has a pH of 7.9, and a temperature of 18.4°C.The spring quality is bicarbonate of soda, which is said to be the hot spring of beauty. This spring is effective for treating neuralgia, skin diseases, rheumatic diseases, wounds, etc.

The correct bathing method is available on our website, so if you refer to it, you can expect even better results. To the right of it is a poster of the Hidden Hot Springs Shampoo Series by the Japan Secret Hot Springs Protection Association.

To the right of it is a wooden sign that says, “We do not allow people to bathe after drinking.” To the right of that, there is a request for customers written with obvious things.

This manual describes a new cypress bath that was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake and has been revived with half of the bathtub made of cypress and half of it covered with tiles. Let’s go into the bathroom.

There is a washing area on the left and right as soon as you enter, and it looks like this. In the washing area, a 3-piece set of secret hot spring Kumazara shampoo, conditioner, and body soap is on standby.

This bathtub was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the left half of the bottom of the bathtub is made of cypress and the right half is tiled, creating a perfect harmony. Please enjoy the sound of the hot spring water flowing from the spout into the cypress bath.

The freshly refinished ceiling is beautiful, high and gives a sense of openness, and you can feel the warmth of the wood. There is a terrace to the right after entering from the entrance, and there are benches and hanging lanterns from the Society for the Protection of Japanese Secret Hot Springs.

Let’s take a bath in the rock bath in the back. There is a restroom on the left immediately after entering the entrance, and there are two sinks lined up in front of the restroom.

Next to the washroom, there is a water jug where you can drink cold water after taking a bath, and there is a paper cup on the left side.

There are coin lockers on the right side as you enter the changing room. You will need to pay 100 yen to use the lockers, which will be returned to you after use.

The changing room looks like this: on the left side there is an air purifier, a large mirror, a hair dryer, tissues, and a hot air heater, there is a long chair in the middle, and on the right side there is a changing basket.

On the left side of the locker are photos of past walking events, analysis test reports, and pamphlets from the time the store opened in April 1991. To the left of it is a wooden sign that says that bathing after drinking alcohol is prohibited.

To the left of that is a summary of what was aired on NHK Mito’s program “I Found Good Hot Water” on April 13, 2022. To the left of it, there is a request for customers written on it that is obvious. To the left of it is a hot spring analysis book.

To the left of it is a hand towel with 10 health lessons written on it, which is painful for middle-aged and middle-aged people like me. Let’s go into the bathroom. As soon as you enter, there is a washing area on the left and right, and a rock bath is behind it.

This is what the rock bath looks like from the entrance. Of course, a 3-piece set of secret hot spring Kumazasa shampoo, conditioner, and body soap is also on standby in the washing area of the rock bath.

When you look at the rock bath from the back, it looks like this, and you can feel the rustic feeling. Please enjoy the sound of the hot spring water flowing into the rock bath from the spout made of overlapping rocks.

The freshly refinished ceiling is beautiful, high and gives a sense of openness, and you can feel the warmth of the wood. Proceed down the hallway in front of the bathroom.

It starts on the left side of the aisle, and when you go up the stairs, on the right side, there are many picture letter-style paintings called the New Building Corridor Picture Letter Exhibition, and on the left side, there are vintage antiques.

The New Building Corridor Picture Letter Exhibition ends here and continues to the New Building. There are 3 rooms ahead, a room in the new building. Let’s take a look at Momiji no Ma, where we stayed this time. Let’s enter the room from the hallway.

When you enter the room, there is a futon spread out so you can sleep at any time. Looking at the entrance from the wall of the room, it looks like this.

As seen from inside the room, there is a wooden closet to the left of the entrance, and a desk and chair can be pulled out from under the closet. This is what the room looks like from the entrance.

Looking from inside the room, there is a wooden chest of drawers to the right of the entrance, and under the chest of drawers is a carrying bag containing a bath towel, tabi, tanzen, toothbrush, and towels.

Next to it is a TV, next to the TV are tissues, deodorant, and reading material, and below that is a safe. The wide veranda in the back, which has been expanded and expanded, looks like this.

There is a wooden shelf to the left of the entrance, and on top of it is a combination of a shoulder clap and a grandchild’s hand. Due to the expansion, the refrigerator and washroom were newly placed on the wide veranda.

There is a menu on top of the refrigerator, and when you open it, you will find alcohol and soft drinks. The spacious veranda, which has been expanded due to the addition, is equipped with a high table, a kotatsu table, chairs, and a sofa, making it very spacious.

On the table are a set of tea utensils, a key, tea sweets, a request to the guests, information about the Japan Secret Hot Springs Protection Association, a questionnaire, information about nearby tourist spots, and additional meal menus.

The tea sweets are charcoal-grilled coffee-flavored agar that every Showa-era child must have tried at least once, and they are also sold at shops. Of these, Onmyou Shrine is the one that can be accessed on foot even by people with poor mobility.

The torii gate at the entrance of Onmyo Shrine looks like this, and if you go up the stone steps from the torii gate, there is a shrine, and above that there is an observation deck, and the view from the observation deck is like this.

There is free Wi-Fi, which is great when you don’t have cell phone signal. Let’s take a look at the food menu. There is a long list of menu items that you will want to order. There are also small snacks and dessert menus.

They also have a recommended snack menu that looks delicious and reasonably priced. There is also a drink menu, including secret hot spring beer, local sake Kuji no Yama, and char bone sake. This is the secret hot spring beer.

Using beech natural yeast, you might think that it is produced deep in the mountains of Akita, but surprisingly, it is produced in a flat area about 2 kilometers from Jindai Station on the Tazawako Line.

When I got out of the bath while I was waiting for a midnight snack, I ended up unplugging the bottle out of a conditioned reflex. Let’s take a look at the dining area in the pine room on the left side of the entrance.

There is a counter on the right as soon as you enter. The room in front of you when you enter has mainly table seats, and it looks like this. The window side in the back has been expanded and has table seats, so it looks like this. Tableware is set on the table.

There is a tatami room on the left when you enter, and there is a hearth with a table at the entrance, and the tatami room looks like this. At night, the entrance creates the atmosphere of a hidden hot spring inn. The dinner menu looks like this.

Before you even sit down, the food is already lined up, and on the tray are small bowls, simmered dishes, pickled vegetables, and sashimi soy sauce. On the left side are the hot pot dishes, and on the right side are the 8 sun dishes. Let’s take a look at the food on the tray.

This is a simmered furofuki radish. This is an inaka-simmered dish of zenmai, konnyaku, and dried daikon radish. It’s a scented thing. As soon as you sit down, the mizusato is brought to you and becomes gorgeous.

Although Mizosato is in the mountains, Ibaraki Prefecture is a prefecture with the sea, so the freshness is good. This is Yashio trout. This is amberjack. This is octopus. It’s tuna. Eight-inch pieces of locally produced sashimi konnyaku are served with yuzu miso. Seasoned with vinegar and miso. It is a jellyfish and mushroom salad.

Dengaku wheat gluten, salt-grilled mackerel, and Yahata rolls. The hotpot is a miso-flavored hot pot dish that contains a large taro, pork belly, carrots, green onions, burdock root, shimeji mushrooms, maitake mushrooms, and tofu. Since we don’t have Kirin or Sapporo, we start with secret beer.

After a while, the grilled salt-grilled sweetfish was brought out. Next, a medium plate of millet mochi with perilla miso is brought to you. Next, fried shrimp and tempura of wakasagi, ginnan, and shishito peppers are brought out. It’s an apple, a water confectionery. This stewed sweet potato hotpot is irresistible during the cold season.

Mini soba noodles are available for an additional charge. At the end, we enjoyed the soba hot water and said thank you for the meal. For breakfast, side dishes are placed in a basket and served on a tray along with a mini salad, pickles, and fried eggs. It’s natto. It’s macaroni salad.

Boiled dried radish. This is Kinpira Burdock. Grilled salmon, ginger tsukudani, and Kinzanji miso. The rice is a special dish made from home-grown Koshihikari rice dried in the sun in Odake, and comes with unlimited refills along with miso soup made with handmade miso made from local soybeans.

Homemade pickled plums are placed in a jar on the table. I ate it all. Thank you for the meal.

After checking out, the recommended plan is to take the 10:11 train bound for Koriyama from Yamagata-juku Station to Hitachi-Daiko, and eat an apple pie from an apple shop at an old folk cafe called Daigo Cafe. You can enjoy Okukuji to the fullest.
