宮崎県の深い渓谷にある天然温泉へ・・・

This is Nobeoka Station in Miyazaki Prefecture. From now on, I’m thinking of going to a hot spring in a deep valley. It is possible to go to the hot spring by bus, but due to the flight time on the way back, I rented a car today.

The hot spring we are going to is located in a town called Hinokage Town, which is located to the west of Nobeoka City. It’s about an hour’s drive. Nobeoka City is located in the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture and is one of the prefecture’s leading industrial towns.

It’s around the end of autumn, so the trees along the street are turning beautiful colors. The road I’m currently driving on is National Route 218. This road connects Nobeoka City in Miyazaki to Kumamoto City in Kumamoto Prefecture.

This road is a bypass road and is a very convenient road for going to Hinokage Town, Takachiho Gorge, and Kumamoto. Until this bypass road was built, the main road was the route that ran along the Gokase River.

The view is good as it passes along the river, but it is a very narrow road. The road is also prone to landslides caused by typhoons and other events.

Railway also ran from Nobeoka City to Takachiho Town, but the railway bridge collapsed in a typhoon and the line was abandoned. The old road has also suffered road closures and traffic restrictions due to several places where the road has collapsed due to heavy rains in recent years.

So this time, due to traffic restrictions and time for my return flight, I am heading to Hinokage Town on this bypass road. The view from this bypass road is also beautiful and highly recommended. Today is another day with beautiful blue skies.

Whenever I visit Miyazaki Prefecture, it’s always surprisingly sunny days. Last time I went to Amanoiwato Shrine, it was raining when I left Nobeoka, but it gradually cleared up when I arrived. This surprised me. Maybe it’s because my daily behavior is good…

Let’s take a moment to look at this view from the bypass road. Some of you may have noticed… This road has many repeats where you cross a bridge and then enter a tunnel. This is because this route follows a deep valley.

There is also a bridge that is about 140m above the water surface. If you look at the view from the bridge, you can clearly see that you are driving over a valley. People who are afraid of heights may not want to see it…

About 50 minutes after leaving Nobeoka, I entered Hinokage Town. There is a “Roadside Station” (rest stop) just after crossing this bridge. Let’s take a little break. Let’s have a break and take a look at the view from here.

The bridge you can see now is the one you passed earlier, and it’s called “Seiun Bridge.” The name of the roadside station I’m currently at is “Seiunbashi”. Now, let’s go to our destination, a hot spring.

The hot spring facility we are heading to now is located along the Gokase River near the center of Hinokage Town. To do this, we will go down from bypass road towards the old road.

The difference in elevation between the bypass road and the old road along the river is over 100 meters. Because of this, the road has a steep slope. Then… we will take a road with many hairpin curves and sharp curves.

The pier visible in front is an abandoned railway line. Since its abolition in 2008, it has remained as it was at that time. If turn at this intersection, There is about 1km left to the hot spring.

I’m looking forward to getting into a large bathtub where I can stretch my legs for the first time in a while. The road you are currently on is an old road, and it was the main route until the bypass road was built.

The building you can see on the right is the hot spring facility. Well, we’ve arrived. Today is a weekday, so there seem to be few cars and motorcycles. I feel like I can soak in a relaxing hot spring. ? ? ? There aren’t any cars. No way! It’s a closed day!

Let’s switch to an impromptu “Plan B” with a brief introduction to this hot spring facility and a tour around the center of the town we just passed through. So let’s go! The name of this hot spring facility is “Hinokage Onsen Station”

It was a hot spring facility attached to the station building, but after the line was discontinued, the hot spring continues to operate. This railway car is a lodging facility that has been renovated from a railway car that was running at the time.

There are 4-person rooms, 2-person rooms, and 1-person rooms, and you can stay for 3,500 yen to 10,000 yen. Platform at that time maybe. . . The fee to use this hot spring is 500 yen for adults, 400 yen for junior high school students, and 300 yen for elementary school students.

The hut on the left is a free footbath The hot spring facility has a large indoor bath and an open-air bath, as well as a souvenir shop and restaurant.

When I visited last time, my impression was that it was like public bath in a town with a large public bath. Let’s go around the center of town. The building on the left is a sake brewery.

The shochu made from sweet potatoes here is delicious, and this is the brewery where I come to buy shochu when I give something as a gift for a celebration. Shop called Himeizumi Sake Brewery(姫泉酒造), My recommendation. The bypass road I took when I came here, this townscape, the silence…

This is my opinion, This town felt similar to the town that appeared in Disney animated movie where the main character was a car. The conditions are similar, but what is the actual situation?

I like the atmosphere of this town and have visited it many times, but every time I come, I find myself thinking about the following. Bypass roads are necessary because they improve the efficiency of logistics and serve as arteries connecting cities.

On the other hand, there is also the risk that the area will become a mere transit point and the area will not be enriched. Which is better… This may be a difficult problem. That was my soliloquy…

From this bridge, you can see the bridge passing high above the ground, so let’s take a look. Let’s also take a look at the townscape. I returned to the roadside station. It’s almost time to head to the airport. Since we didn’t have much time to explore Hinokage Town,

We decided to pick up a map at the town’s tourist information center, and next time we’d take a leisurely tour of the town and the hot springs. Thank you for watching until the end. I hope you will come to this channel again.
