34 – EUROPE TOUR | SOLO VÉLO CAMPING DANS LA VALLÉE DU HAUT-RHIN EN ALLEMAGNE (PART 2) EUROVÉLO 15 🚴

Episode 34 – Solo camping and beauties of the Haut-Rhin valley (part 2) (Amsterdam to Lisbon by Brompton folding bike and train) Bonn (Germany) After cycling a first part along the Rhine road, between Düsseldorf and Bonn, I hit the road again for several days, still along the Rhine. Direction Strasbourg. Subscribe Good morning friends!

Oh my god, it’s windy today Mmmmm Christian your sweets, they’re so good. I love it. It’s just what I need to have the energy to continue with the wind in my face. It’s so beautiful up there. There is a kind of castle there and up there, a kind of ruins.

But it’s really too beautiful. It seems to me that if it was a little warmer things would be better! Let’s watch the temperature in the coming days. It’s the same weather as in Denmark, it’s 15 degrees Celsius Hum, 20 degrees Celsius, it’ll get warmer tomorrow There, that lifted my spirits. Here we go.

Yes, I put on the poncho I put on the ponchito It was a few drops. It was forecasting rain at 3 p.m. but it’s not 3 p.m. it’s 2 p.m. friends The rain calms down. But it’s good there. It’s been many days since I did 80 kilometers there.

We’re not used to it anymore but there are 25 km left for the campsite, just after Koblenz. Koblenz (Germany) Ah, we’re at the campsite, friends! We’ll see if it’s open! Hello ! Are you open for camping? Yes, ok Yes a tent if it’s possible for one night You can stand wherever you want

Ok, perfect, great Friends, no but look, I saw on the Rhine with the castle there. She told me that it was lit up before, but not anymore. This little place is so cool. Look at the little tent, it’s so good.

There are the toilets there and the showers down there if I’m right. Understood. The thing is, it’s not easy to pitch the tent. There, it’s a kind of stupid gravel, it’s hard, but hey, it works because there, if there’s a storm, everything flies away. Small installation of the Helinox chair, quietly

Like at home. What do you want more ? We install the seat It fits in small corners It’s really easy to assemble Like at home, peaceful. There’s no one nearby, it’s perfect. We can hear the train too well. The table is missing, that’s what’s missing. but it doesn’t matter

I would have taken a table, but it doesn’t matter It’s a table that’s missing. Damn, a table please. 83 kilometers today friends. Yeah, it was a nice day, but it doesn’t seem like I felt like I did 50 km. maybe because it was flat. The girl told me: stand wherever you want.

I paid $12. €12 was €11. plus €1 per shower for four minutes. If I stay in the shower for four minutes I think I’ll fall asleep. It’s perfect to come at this season because there’s no one there and it’s quiet

What’s really funny is that when I arrive at the campsite, all the people look at me like that: it’s is the activity! Oulala something is happening oulala she’s not coming with something normal, a camper van where I don’t know what she’s arriving with a weird bike

What’s perfect is that it’s really next to the cycle path There is the cycle path and there is the campsite. It’s so good. I did well to do that. I’m very happy. Friends, damn we’re good here I love it Ah that’s it it’s raining The coffee, it’s seriously so good

I love it. Hmm. It’s a reusable filter that I bought and wanted to see if it worked well while camping. It works really well and is really easy to use. You don’t have to push on a pressing machine or I don’t know what, you rinse

Your cotton filter after your and you dry it and there you have your little free camping coffee. So, I like it, I have the little coffee for breakfast and then I make tea and so, I have hot tea for when I cycle. to have something warm, which is still cool.

So that’s why I have this and a bottle for water. I have two things. One for hot, one for cold, so it suits me that way. A small family oatmeal with porridge, oats, apples, dates, peanut butter. I didn’t sleep that badly, it’s just from 4 a.m. between the train and the boats

It was boring I think you get used to the tent after a while I don’ have a lot of pain everywhere , a little in the neck I feel good, I massage my legs and neck in the evening I think it helps Ah I like having time.

Today I shortened the day, I’m just doing 65 km so I have time. It is very good. I can arrive around 4 p.m., 5 p.m., it’s perfect. We left today in beautiful sunny weather. It’s really beautiful, I have to show you No, but look at this, it’s on the mountainside.

There are vines as far as the eye can see. I’ll show you, look at all this, they’re vines and they’re really on the side. All that there too. On the other side, we have the Rhine which is narrowing. And uh, yes, it’s going to be beautiful I think today.

I waited until noon today for it to stop raining a little. And now it’s almost no longer raining, it’s perfect. It’s not possible, it’s crazy how beautiful it is seriously No, it’s not possible. Oh my, it’s fucking beautiful, it’s beautiful, it’s really beautiful there in the middle of the mountains

Look at that, while I’m cycling there are others having an aperitif. Oh oh oh ! I looked up and look what I saw No, but that’s not possible Friends, look at the flag of Canada, there, that’s us that’s us that’s us, that’s us is us. Awesome !

I don’t know why there is the Canadian flag. How beautiful the train tunnels are, seriously I have to count the word beautiful in the video, I think How beautiful it is! It looks like a clock, it’s beautiful! Oh no, it’s so beautiful!

I have to take a photo, it’s not possible, I have to stop Small note here People are driving really fast, it’s crazy. They’re going more than 80 km per hour, it’s crazy. Frankly, I find it really dangerous. Because the guy, he texts or the woman

They don’t see the sidewalk and boom they enter the cycle path. It’s the end of the tunnel. Really on the mountainside. These are the best comments I can give you seriously. We’re having a good time. We are always along but we are always close to the road. Okay, I’ll stop complaining.

I stop, I stop, I stop. Friends, a little silence does me good. Oh dear, I got off the road, the cycle path branches off at one point. Don’t tell me there’s a car there again. I’m tired of cars, but what’s great, what I wanted to show you, is that there are lots

Of little gardens there, People, they have their little plot, they have a little cabin they have a little greenhouse, it’s so cool, right at the foot of the castle there. Oh dear, look at that. Really so cute. A small awning for shelter if needed. And then we get back on the road normally.

Ah cobblestones, it was a long time ago. Today, friends, it may be a little ambitious but I plan 100 kilometers today. Because, actually, there’s not that much in between. Between the two big cities and it’s flat so I tell myself that it must be done. How many have I done already? 37 km

I have already done almost 40 km. I have 67 km left. So here, I left a little before Mainz and there, I’m going a little after Mannheim. Yes it’s a long ride and there is a campsite just after town. So I tell myself that it should do it

If the campsite is open of course. It’s adventure. Sometimes I’m hot, sometimes I’m cold. It feels like we’re in Quebec. We did it, friends. We’re in Mannheim (Germany) but it’s really industrial as you can see. The factories, buildings and a beautiful cathedral in the distance, I think. Friends,

Friends, we are going to pass the 100 kilometers. In 400 meters. In 400 meters, we pass 100 kilometers. It’s a record day. Chouchou, we will have done 100 km, 100 km Chouchou This is the first time I’ve done 100 km with Archie Come on, we did 100 km with Chouchou.

There are nine minutes left. There’s a noise there that I don’t like. I don’t really know what’s on the bike there, Still 3 km Chouchou It’s not the time to give up. Nine minutes. We’re almost there, my little Chouchou I know you’re a little tired. We’re all a little tired, huh?

So we take our courage in both hands and we finish arriving quietly. Tell me that the campsite is open, I beg you. I think the campsite is open. I hope I hope it’s open, I’m begging you anyway, it looks open. There is a small restaurant

The people, they are peacefully at the water’s edge. Well friends, the campsite is closed but it doesn’t matter, we’ll set up here the same. I’ve decided. I saw that there were toilets a little further away, so it will be perfect. It’s going to be perfect. No shower though, but that doesn’t matter.

We’ll see the shower tomorrow. Ohlala Why is it closed? It’s not October 30th, damn it’s not very intimate because there are people walking past, but that’s okay. We’re going to set up the tent. Then we’re going to go the same way because I’m tired and it’s 6 p.m. Let’s go to the tent!

Come on, the best time, the meal. That’s it friends, that’s going to be the meal. Small gnocchi with spicy sauce Olives, cheese and family pesto, It’s good. It’s not bad. I may have done a lot actually. Maybe I shouldn’t have added the olives. Maybe it was too much. My favorite moment, friends.

What tea? Well, I don’t have the bottle of wine, but we do what we can. The quotes are in German I don’t understand. But in general, it means love yourself or like you’re the best in life, that’s what it means. So in the end, it’s me who decides what that means. In the end, that means Aurélie and Archie, you are the best to have done 100 km. That’s what it means.

The lighting for the following sequence is courtesy of the house There is always a little voice in your head that says no, you won’t make it but no, you won’t make it. The worst is when there are 25 kilometers left. There are numbers like that, like 37 km are horrible numbers.

It’s like endless numbers it seems. But when it gets to ten ten km, it’s like my favorite number. Do you also have this feeling with numbers? Tell me in the comments, what do you think? That’s it, it’s going to be a good night, I think.

I think there’s going to be no one coming through here, it’s going to be very good. I’m on a campsite, I’m not wild camping. But is sleeping in a closed campsite considered wild camping? I leave you to meditate this question. Sometimes there are people who do 140 km, 200 km.

I don’t know how they do it. I don’t know if I could have done 40 kilometers more. I think I could have done 40 kilometers more. I would have been dead, but because I think we’re not looking for the same thing. I think that these people, they are looking for a performance

Of going to the end of themselves. It’s beautiful what I say. I’m not trying to reach the end of myself. I’m trying to go, I don’t know where but somewhere. Yes, I eat… What is it? Hazelnut spread It’s not Nutella, it’s organic. Where do I hurt this morning?

And frankly, my legs don’t hurt, which is normal. But there, we are really close to France I looked, we are 150 kilometers from Strasbourg. so cute. Hello I’m going to tell you some good news the news of the day It’s Sunday today. I have to go shopping and on

Sundays in Germany as in France, I think the groceries are closed. But how can I tell you that I am really happy with this news? I’m hungry, but, but, but, wait I saw that there was still a bakery open. We’re going to try the bread bakery it will be better than nothing. Friends,

Can you explain to me why I took a detour to Baden-Baden? who has no use for hitting me on this fucking hills Sometimes we make stupid choices. It’s the last hill, then it goes down. It’s flat afterwards, it helps me to tell myself that. Damn, tell me it goes down afterwards.

It goes up afterwards? No, but it’s not possible. What is this joke? How awful ! But what a horror! I want to get out of there. Tell me it’s the last climb. It’s not possible. Ah there is a sidewalk, hallelujah Oh damn, that makes me angry. Why did you do that Aurélie?

Hello, hello, I finally took Eurovélo 15 again, after multiple detours in the hinterland which says multiple detours, says climbing stupid hills. There you go, no more detours, I stay on the flat on the Rhine. Ah it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, But there are still plenty of industries

Almost everywhere on the Rhine. Yeah, it’s not great in some places. For this first day in Strasbourg, I am staying with Hélène and Hugues, a couple of cyclists. Hélène leaves me the keys to their apartment so that I can store my things there and can freely visit the city. Notre-Dame Cathedral in Strasbourg

That, friends, is a Ginkgo biloba. It’s crazy ! It was Hélène who told me that there were these trees here but they are green and it is the end of October. Normally it is yellow in autumn. But it starts slowly. We see it there, it’s so crazy. I then go to meet Benjamin

And Charlotte, who welcomes me for this second day in Strasbourg. With Benjamin, we studied documentary cinema together in Quebec and he returned to settle in Strasbourg some time later. Yo, well so how are you? it’s good and you ? I feel like I’m still in Quebec.

It seems like we saw each other like it was yesterday, that you came to the house for a drink. We have the Palais du Rohan which is absolutely not lit Energy saving. We have a mayor who still represents the green party and as a result we don’t see the Palais du Rohan.

There, on the other hand, we have the Chinese palace. and the Maharaja restaurant damn no need to travel there anymore. The particularity of this cathedral is that it does not have 2 towers and that is a bit of the debate that we have had for centuries, some think that it is an error

Indeed, it is true. others think that this is what makes Strasbourg Cathedral original; it is missing a tower. Because it’s true that in Cologne it is two towers away. But now, damn it, now that you say it. It’s very interesting.

One of the other particularities of the cathedral is that it is built in the foreground. This means that there are a lot of details and sculptures which are not directly on the facade, but on a kind of like a small wall in the foreground. A first facade of raw stones

And all in relief (3D) with all the peaks like that you see. Your first impressions of Strasbourg? I adore ! Frankly, it broke my preconceptions, it’s so good. I adore ! Sometimes we arrive with a judgment in mind. when I heard the word Strasbourg, it sounded heavy in my head.

Its history is heavy, a little bit, maybe yes maybe it’s cause of that, I don’t know. Ultimately, it’s bucolic. It’s bucolic, it’s nice. There are little bistros here and there. Do they inspire you? You have to go there, you have to go to places to see.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I’m going to settle in Strasbourg. Ah, you don’t know. Wait for Alsace, it’s winning for you So Aurélie is going to come and settle here in Strasbourg, she is going to become Alsatian, her new home. Come on, end of the trip, it’s beautiful!

But this little tour by night is cute, it’s great Benjamin! I love Incredible, it’s crazy! Look, it’s crazy! I fucking love it but it’s closed, right? It’s closed ? Where do we get in? it’s closed This restaurant is expensive, you don’t know how much you pay for your pasta dish but

One pasta cost 1 euro here in this restaurant the restaurant is called: the fall The fall of wallet (pun in French) Haha, well done closing the account savings to go to eat at the restaurant: the fall Drop in tension after billing There you go, Aurélie left with my bike.

I don’t see her anymore. Did it disappear in the Rhine? Did she get eaten by sharks? Answer next episode. It’s historic, here she is back from Siberia. She’s here, She’s just arrived with her gravel, It’s cool, I like her validation, she validates the bike, she validates. the saddle not comfortable?

Is the saddle comfortable? Comfortable saddle. This is actually a question, yes the saddle is very comfortable. I confirm, the saddle is comfortable. Even over long distances? yeah it hurts a bit in the ass although I confirm that the saddle hurts in the ass over long distances

Do you want to take a ride on a Brompton bike? Let’s go! let’s go, let’s go! Ah damn, the Playmobil bike isn’t a Playmobil bike. How do you shift gears? You have to push on the sides and it is the champion who will cross the finish line.

It’s give pain of ass with paving stones So on a scale of 0 to 10? 12 12 there you go! This is why you shouldn’t use Google Map. Is this bullshit, where are we going there? Where are we going here? What are we doing ? Shall we take a grassy path? Fucking holes!

But I’m tired of these holes. It feels good to moan. I was going to say it makes me feel good to moan because there’s no one who can hear me, but in fact, I’m talking to the camera.

  1. Hello beautiful community! For subtitles select CC 😄NEW VIDEO TODAY! I bring with me along the upper rhine valley with solo camping, incredible camping food, beautiful castles, long rides and jokes of course ! Thanks for watching! If you liked it subscribe and leave me a comment, I love answering it. 🥰 PS : Do you think that sleeping in closed camping it's wild camping ? LOL

  2. Aurélie! This video was just incredible! A castle on a hill? Perfect! The Canadian flag was put there waiting for your arrival 😉The hills are a pain in the rear end, but you overcome that obstacle! I was reading about Strasbourg the other day and am happy for you that you met up with an old friend to show you around the city. I'll be on the lookout for the next one! 😎

  6. I loved the riverside bike trail with such interesting vistas. The evening tour of Strasbourg made me want to go there. It looks like a very interesting town. Your 100 km day must have been quite exhausting and not something one wants to do every day!

Thanks for sharing this episode and I look forward to the next one.

    Alex.

  8. 1:35 🙏

So cool, the best part at the river Rhine. I love this area between Koblenz and Bingen/Mainz with all the vineyards and castles 🥰 Congrats not only for covering more than 100 km a day, but also for surviving German boredom and bourgeoisie 🤣

  11. I love these adventures, every element, the cities are full of wonderful details, the friends along the way are great and the entire bike ride is a dream, congratulations my friend for this great episode of your trip and as always: thank you for sharing it with all of us 🙏🏻

    Dominic
