Canadian Rockies on a Motorcycle | A Breathtaking Adventure! – EP. 267

Good morning. I didn’t die. Bears didn’t eat me. Actually, I slept like a bear. It was such a good night. So. Today, we have to do another 600-700 kilometers. Yes. It’s gonna be a long day on the bike, but anyway. Hopefully we’ll see some pretty things on the way.

And where I’m gonna stay? I have no idea. We’ll just work it out as we go. [Intro Music] Hi, moose! Hi! That’s a moose! He’s cool! Hi! I’m going through such a scenic area, but because of these clouds, the vision is quite limited. But they still look beautiful. Well. It looks beautiful to me. Hopefully, it looks beautiful on the camera as well. It’s a very…

Very pleasant ride today, although the temperature dropped down to 12 degrees, so it’s a bit chilly. Wow! This is so beautiful. Even in the clouds. And it’s raining. It’s gonna be a long day. I need to change my gloves. It’s cold. And wet. Sun. Come out. I’ve done 500 kilometers today. Mainly in this condition. I am over it. Officially. But we can’t stop. We still have 150 k’s to Saint John, and then we’re gonna – I just booked a hotel there. So we’re gonna stay there overnight. It’s definitely not a camping weather. Oh dear. Between my last shot

And this shot, we have between a 14-hour difference. So yesterday, I was just pushing through all this rain. And just took a motel. Stayed for ten hours. And today is a new day. So, I stopped for breakfast here. Tim Hortons. My favorite.

Actually, I just realized this is the first time I’m stopping at Timmy’s this summer, and um… Yeah. I’m nearly out of this country and I still haven’t had my morning coffee and breakfast at Tim Hortons. Today will be a very exciting day, I think, because we’ll be going through Rockies.

So I’ll be staying overnight in Jasper, which is around 600 kilometers away. Another long day on the bike, but that’s okay. I think it’s gonna be very, very scenic. So I’m looking forward to that. All right. Let’s get going. Another 600 to go. So I’m now in Dawson’s Creek. And I’m gonna go

Just across the road. Uh, maybe not. Maybe not across the road. No, we’re supposed to go this way. No. No, no, no, no, no. We’re supposed to go that way. Okay, we have to turn around. I think I’m lost. Here in Dawson Creek, there’s one historical landmark, or whatever you call it. So,

This is the start of Alaska Highway. This is it. See? Like, just there. So this is the zero sort of point. From now on, this is Alaska Highway all the way to Alaska. ‘You are now entering the World Famous Alaska Highway.’

Dawson Creek. There you go. I think we need to put our sticker here, Chillie. Totally. No space for stickers, but hey. We’ll make it happen. Somewhere here in the middle. There you go. Right there. OHB. Smile, Chillie! I just got rained on big time! So the first 300 kilometers were quite dry, and now we’re nearly at the Rockies. I think. Oh, that was a long day on the highway. The rain has stopped here, although I’m not sure. Looks quite cloudy there.

But we are in the Rockies! We have 50 k’s to Jasper. And that’s it. That will be the end for today. It’s very beautiful here. I’ll put you up further. Although the vision is quite limited because of the clouds. And we made it to Jasper! Let’s roll through town, see what’s here.

I’m staying in a hostel here. Because it’s very expensive here. I mean, we’re talking about like: a regular room will cost you like, 300 bucks. And a dorm room – Well, a dorm bed – a bed in a dorm room… Still expensive. 80, but much more affordable than a hotel. Oh!

We got a train coming! That might take a little. So… Some of these Canadian trains, apparently they’re like two kilometers long. Yup. It’s a long train. I can’t see the end of it yet. There you go. Canadian train. Coming slowly but surely. Yup. This one has at least

Two kilometers? I’m here for a while. I think this one had five kilometers. It felt like 10. I was here for about – Oh no, another one. Oh no. Oh, no! Chillie, we’ll be here for – Until morning, honestly. Look at this. This one just crossed. And this one is coming.

But what’s interesting is the only – This one – the super long one – The first one had only one engine at the front. Huh. Maybe it’s empty. And this one. No way. There you go. The irony is we’re only 300 meters from the hostel. Like literally, the hostel is there.

And I’m stuck here for 15 minutes because of the train. It’s okay. At the end of the day, we have all the time in the world, right? Oh! This one has an engine in the middle. I think this one has a little – Ooh. This one goes a little bit faster.

So maybe it’s longer. Maybe this one is 15 kilometers long. It feels like 20 kilometers long. Honestly, this one has like, double the length of the first one. It’s insane. I’m here for like, for 10 minutes and… Yes? I think that’s it! That’s the end of it.

Bloody hell, that was a long time. I’m – This ringing is gonna stay in my ears until the morning, I think. The ding-ding-ding-ding-ding! Oh my God. This is so annoying. Ooh, I like that engine. No one there. It’s a driverless engine. Oh, come on. Please. Oh, thank goodness. Silence. Right. Here!

This is us. Uh-huh. Chillie, we made it. I fixed my hair. Here we are! We’re in. This is my room. There you go. And that’s my bed. Four beds in the room. It’s fantastic. And we have a like – Our own bathroom. We made it.

Hold on, I’ll fix my hair. Yup. That’s it. So I went for a little walk. Yes. I am – This is the location I wanted to start to shop. Hold on. Here we go. Here’s the flag. One, two, three. Right. We’re sort of in the middle of town.

But this is dangerous. I only did a half of it and ended up with so many souvenirs for my family and friends. That’s okay. So, yeah. It is late. It’s nearly 10 PM. And I think we need to go to bed. Yeah. So I had dinner. Did some shopping.

It’s a lovely little town. Good morning. Look at this beautiful day! So. I am pumped and excited because today, we will be doing the most beautiful – apparently – route, which is called Icefields Parkway. This is like, apparently the most photographed road in the world. Well, or recommended for bikers. You know. That sort of stuff.

So we’re leaving Jasper on a beautiful sunny day. And today, we have another 630 kilometers to go. Oh my God. Wow. This is definitely an epic route. Look at this. Don’t judge my hair. I’m going to the hairdresser in two days. First top on this scenic route. I think… I think these waterfalls are called Athabasca Waterfalls? Don’t quote me. It’s Kingalish. This is the way I pronounce it. Okay. We definitely have to have a picture here. Here we go! Another waterfall. This one is really fast! And it goes sort of into the canyon. It’s really cool. So the reason the scenery looks like this, a bit foggy, is because of the bush fires. They had so many bush fires here in Alberta and B.C. this summer. And you can – I can smell it. This is the smoke from the fire.

Yeah, look at this scenario. It’s just like, you can’t even see the mountains, hey? It’s quite incredible landscape, but we do have very limited vision because of that smoke. And to be honest, like, it’s quite intense smell. It’s like you’re breathing in smoke, so I don’t think it’s good for ya. This is a glacier! I think so! This looks like a glacier. I think there’s a glacier there. There. I mean… It’s hard to see in this smoke, but it is very beautiful. It’s windy. Okay, Chillie. Let’s keep going. It is a beautiful spot, but we need to keep going. Like, we’ll never get anywhere today if we’re stopping every five minutes. Wow. That’s the scenery. Even on a smokey day. Oh! What’s this? Barricade. What does it mean? Barricade. And here we have another glacier. I don’t know if you’ll be able to see it. It’s just there. See? See the glacier? Pretty. That is one of my favorite spots, honestly. Just this, you know. The color of this lake and this glacier here. Bow Lake. This is it. Should we stop, Chillie? We gotta go. It’s getting crowded. [Outro Music] Cut! [Outro Music] Look! Something is being delivered. So clever! Just a bag. For the construction guys. That’s the Canadian Uber. Oh, wow! He’s taking something back! Some timber. Really? That’s cool! [Outro Music]

In this video, we’ll take you on a ride through the stunning landscapes of the Canadian Rockies and share with you the thrill of the open road and the freedom that comes with exploring these majestic mountains.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don’t know my final destination or the duration of this journey.

Throughout my journey, I’m raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: https://gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

  1. 🤣 That railway crossing fulfilled Murphy's Law perfectly! That bell probably felt like someone put a saucepan over your head and kept hitting it with a hammer after ten minutes.

  2. Kinga- that was a caribou. (at 1 minute) -probably a female given the hair color on the neck and the small horns. The females can be especially vicious (just kidding!).

  3. Glad you enjoyed the Icefields Parkway Kinga! Awesome road down from Dawson, past Jasper to Banff but unfortunately very crowded now compared to when we lived in Calgary in the early '80s. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Again…I very glad you didn't die Kinga! Would miss you & your videos very much! Thank you for showing me parts of my country that I have never seen! 👍

  5. What a beautiful ride, Kinga, in spite of the weather.

That ringing at the railroad crossing would give me a bad headache. I hope your ears were okay.

The Icefields Parkway was some absolutely fantastic scenery. Stunning!

I hope wherever you are, you're doing well.

Safe travels. See you in the next one. ❤

  6. Good for tourists to see the Canadian economy rolling – even if it's to Asia.
The other Class I railway in Canada moved its headquarters to Alberta from Québec in the 1990's in part because most of its business was now mostly in bulk commodities (coal, grains, potash, sulphur, oil, …).

  7. You do a nice job combining the thrill of travel on a bike, the beautiful sights & also the frustrations of many hours, weather & visibility & delays. It's all of a piece when traveling. Aliveness!

  8. Hi, it's all said by the other comments! But your hair can't be wild enough! In this case I'm a classic man, women's hair is most nicer, if it's longer! My favorite, long dark hair! During traveling it's not so easy perhaps, I know! I 've lost nearly all on my head and I cut off all I can get rid of, when starting journey. So I'm wondering how nice you will look with shoulder long dark hair… Sorry, was just dreaming, wear your hair as you like it! Looks fine – everytime!
Thanks, for being your pillion (if this makes sense) (perhaps some mistakes in my translation)

  9. Sorry you had to deal with that forest fire smoke. When that smoke gets bad it’s not just depressing but unhealthy. Unfortunately seems to be part of the new reality?
