Cozy Day in Winter: Slow and Peaceful Life, Silent Vlog

Good morning! what have you been up to during this final week of the year? We’ve been blessed with exceptionally warm weather this year. There was no snow on Christmas Day, but also no rain, so I’m not complaining. The warmer days means more outdoor activity for us.

Usually during the holidays, we would be sliding off a hill with toboggan, but this year, we opted for a bike ride. Our city is beautiful. But we rarely come in town during winter times.

This year the holidays are aligned in such way that we have extra two days off work following a weekend. We decided that it was a nice day to go biking by the seawall. My daughter learned how to bike this past summer. She’s so very eager to bike at every chance.

In winter, the days are short. Around 4PM the sun goes down, and doesn’t come up until 8 in the morning next day. The most beautiful part of the winter dusk is the pink sky. And the fact that you can clearly see the moon even before it’s night time.

The other day my daughter let out an anxious cry while she was in the back seat of my car. She gasped with disappointment that she had left her beloved stuffed animal in my mother in law’s home. We were headed home after picking her up from grandma’s home

We were halfway home when she discovered her mishap. Even though I understood her disappointment, we were not turning our car back. Have you ever lost something important to you and that it hit a core memory? My mother told me a story about my sister.

My sister had a doll when she was young. Like many little girls, she had to carry her doll everywhere she went. My mother didn’t like her carrying the doll everywhere. The doll never went into the washer because god forbid that it was separated from my sister for even one second.

Of course it’s accumulated some dirt and grime after some time. One night, my mother and sister were heading home in a taxi, late in the evening. As my sister dozed off in the car, upon reaching home, she left the doll behind in the car.

It wasn’t until the next morning that she discovered, and I imagine there were moments of chaos and tears. My mom told me she was secretly relieved that they can finally get rid of the doll. But after few weeks, my sister had picked out another stuffed animal as her new favourite.

I had a stuffed animal when I was young. However, drawing from my mother’s experience with my sister, she never attempted to make me give it up. I completely empathize with my daughter because losing that cherished stuffed animal was truly a horrifying experience.

Fortunately for my daughter, her stuffed animal was at my mother-in-law’s home and not in some random taxi. We picked up bunny two days later. Parenting is all about these small, memorable moments that resonate with your own experiences.

Also, tonight we are having hot pot. The best thing about it is that you can cook as you eat. After a long day. What do you look forward to? As the day transitions into night, the hustle and bustle subside, and the chatter gradually fades away.

In these quiet moments, I look forward to a simple yet comforting ritual: a cup of chamomile and lavender tea accompanied by the soft glow of scented candlelight. Sipping tea feels like a rejuvenating break, calming my mind. It’s often in these quiet moments that I can focus on my writing.

I jot down the thoughts that surfaced during my earlier shower, capturing them before they slip away. As we enter the final week of the year, I’m focusing on manifesting a positive outlook, believing that the coming year holds promise and good experiences. I wish you for another year filled with growth, joy, and fulfillment.
