When Evil Lurks Movie: My Mind-Blowing Reaction! #whenevillurks #horror #movies #reaction

Hey everybody, and welcome back to Jay’s Retro Reactions! Today we’re going to be reacting to a fantastic Argentinian movie called When Evil Lurks! When Evil Lurks comes from 2023, was directed by Demian Rugna! I hope I’m pronouncing that correctly and scores a whopping 7/10 on IMDb. And the reason I say it’s

A whopping score, is for Horror Movies. You always have to add +2 to the score, in my opinion. And that’s because many ordinary people do not like Horror Movies. And even really good Horror Movies tend to get scored lower than ordinary Drama or Action Movies.

So anyway, that’s the reason I always add two to a Horror Movie score to figure out the real IMDb score. When Evil Lurks is the story of two brothers in a remote place in Argentina who come across a Demon infected man who’s about to give birth to evil itself

And they have to deal with it. From what I do know, I haven’t seen this Movie, but I did a little reading around it previous to this, not just for the reaction, I follow kind of Movie Trivia, in general. But two things I do know about this Movie is

It interweaves the Cain and Abel story into the Movie. And also, like most Horror Movies, they have a commentary on a Societal or Human condition. So the condition that’s being talked about in this Movie, is actually the use of pesticides and illegal pesticides in remote locations in Argentina, where basically big

Pharma and big Chemical Companies were allowed to just do what they want, regardless of the health impacts on the local populace. So that’s kind of the underlying real theme that this Movie is commenting on. But anyway, guys, as I always say, enough of Jason talking! Let’s get on with the show!

So it’s like gunshots going off outside. And these two guys, the two brothers, I presume, are wondering why there’s gunshots on their land. The guy with the cigarette and the beard looks very Irish. And I know there was a lot of Irish immigration to Argentina in the 19th century,

Including some of my own family. I have no idea where those relatives ended up. I just know there was a story of someone heading there in 1912. But yeah, if I have relatives out there, how are you doing, in Argentina! But he actually looks very like an Irish farmer that

You would see walking around the West of Ireland. So I’m wondering what his name is? The other guy. the other brother, looks very Spanish or Latin. Also, I don’t know what gun ownership rules are in Argentina. I know in Ireland you’re allowed own a shotgun,

A .22 and other weapons if you’re a member of a gun club and involved in competitive shooting. Most farmers in Ireland would have a shotgun. You actually need it to get rid of animals, foxes and stuff. And you also need it….. See, I just seen that Actor’s name, sorry to interrupt, Demian Salmon.

That’s as Irish a name as you can get! Honestly, it is! That guy has Irish heritage I can guarantee it! Anyway, back to my point. Every farmer in Ireland will have a shotgun. You need it, as I said, for pest control. But you also need it for self defence

Because the Police are so far away, you know, they’re going to be pretty much no good! Okay! They found a dead body on their land, I presume. Cut in half as well, man! That brother must be a bit thick. It can’t be a Puma. You heard gunshots! Maybe, after the fact, but it

Wasn’t a Puma that killed him. But it wasn’t the Puma that got him! And they think he was firing at the Puma. Where’s his gun, then? The Puma didn’t take his gun, did it? Because they heard three or four gunshots. It looks like a Sextant of some sort.

Why would he be carrying a Sextant, which is used for navigation, If he’s hunting Pumas? This guy, Ruiz, that’s dead. Okay, sorry! Ruiz is not the dead guy. They just think Ruiz is involved because he was the one hunting the Puma. Apologies! So this unknown guy that’s been cut in half

Was heading to a neighbor’s house, Maria Elena Gomez. He has a strange instrument. He has a book with a map, a hand drawn map, through the forest to Maria Elena’s house. He has notes written in a strange language that they can’t identify. Interesting! Beautiful Countryside, by the way, as well.

So they’ve gone to the neighbor’s house to do a little investigation before involving the Cops, presumably because they don’t want the hassle of the Cops if they can avoid it! Why? What’s up with the Son? And the Son is called Uriel, which is one of the fallen angels that revolted with Lucifer against

God. So, that in itself indicates there’s some evil going on with Uriel. Just the name alone! Was this guy an Exorcist? The dead guy they found in the Jungle! What the hell is up with this guy? Black death or something, he has? The Plague? That ain’t no plague.

Okay, there’s some interesting stuff going on here. They called him a Rotten, which seems to mean he’s possessed, because they’re talking about praying to Saints to try and cure him. Then the other guy said that Churches are dead. Why are Churches dead? So they’re not too shocked that there

Is a Rotten or a possessed guy. And they’re talking about, did you report it? So Churches are dead! This guy is possessed! There’s Official State Reporting! It seemingly to be a big deal and not uncommon. So we’re obviously in some alternative timeline. And going back to what I said in my

Intro, that it represents pesticides and the health implications being done in remote places against Argentinian people. It makes sense, right! That underlying metaphor, or, sorry, the overlaying metaphor of the underlying real cause or commentary of this Movie. It’s definitely an alternative timeline! Not even the Cops are surprised to hear

That there’s a Rotten, a possessed person! And they even want to involve the Mayor. So in this alternative timeline, this thing is a big deal, and all the Authorities need to be involved. Interesting! Okay, so the guy they found dead that they’re calling the Cleaner, the guy that was cut in half, is

The Official State Exorcist whose job is to clean up these Rottens or depossess them, I presume. So in this alternative timeline, if Churches are dead, does that mean evil is rampant and that’s why these possessed people are so common? And there’s an official job of Cleaner or Exorcist,

And the Authorities are all aware and involved. Is it end times? Are we at the end times? So they’re going to talk to this guy Ruiz, who everyone’s, including the Cops, seems to think is involved in this somehow, the killing of this Cleaner! What happens when Uriel dies?

It seems they’re all scared of it, and even the Cops are telling them to leave. Does the evil escape? Man, they drive the Animals crazy! They can affect the deceased! They can raise the dead! This is definitely end time shit we’re dealing with. So this guy Ruiz is a big landowner, and he’s

Paranoid that the State has dumped this possessed person here, and are not dealing with it because they want to get rid of the people so they can steal his land. Again, going back to the underlying theme of the whole pesticide damage in remote areas of Argentina, I can get it.

But I think it’s important that you do understand that kind of real life Social Commentary for all Horror Movies, because again, some of this wouldn’t make sense without it. All right, Ruiz is going vigilante. He’s going to sort out this problem himself. I don’t want to keep repeating

Myself, so I won’t after this. But keep in mind that pesticide issue, because again, you hear Ruiz saying, look at what they’ve done. They’ve brought the most foul thing to my land, which obviously is a clear reference to that pesticide issue in Argentina. So going forward, guys, just keep that in mind yourselves,

Because I don’t want to become a robot and a Parrot just saying it over and over again! Everyone’s afraid of…. if this Rotten dies, that something bad will happen. And now the Rotten is deliberately asking Ruiz to kill him, because I presume that serves his agenda, whatever that is.

Maybe if he dies… that’s maybe what the Movie said was, this guy is going to give birth to evil, so if he dies, the evil escapes and affects everybody. Just wondering if the focus on the Pigs and the Swine there is any relation to how Demons

Were always driven into Pigs in the Bible, or, you know, Legion was driven into the herd of Swine! Are they going to become possessed later on? So Ruiz’s plan is to get the brothers to help him to bring the Rotten and dump him somewhere so far away from them that even if

The evil escapes, they won’t be affected. And I suppose repay the Government for what he thinks they’re doing to him. But this must be bad because farmers do not give up their land easily, and we heard the two brothers saying that they were just going to go, fuck it, we’re going.

It’s that bad. We’re just going to leave. And that would be very hard for most farmers to do. It looks disgusting, man! So good job to the makeup and special effects guys. He looks bloated, full of boils and pus and blah! Will this guy just burst if they lift him?

Full of puss and stuff! He’s already leaking, man! Not surprised they dropped him, given the weight of what he looks like. Not surprised they have to drag him. Look at the size of this dude, man! The Rotten! What a great name! And he’s leaking all that crap that’s in his body

That’s bloated him out, all that puss and stuff. Evil has literally infected this guy, and his body is reacting as if that evil is a vicious infection that it’s trying to fight and failing. Well, they’ve got him into the Truck, which is good. Now they just have to get him to wherever this

Remote two, three hour destination is and just dump them. Typical of people, isn’t it? Get them out of my Local Area. I don’t care! The one thing I do have a question about is how do you become infected and how do you become a Rotten in the first place?

Because these three guys don’t seem too concerned about getting infected themselves. So do you actually have to commit evil? Do you actually have to be involved in Black Magic or Satanic stuff? Or is it like a physical infection, like zombie bites? If anyone knows the background or the

Lore behind this, please let me know. Shit! They almost hit that Kid there! Oh, when they went to….. When they went to swerve to avoid hitting the Kid, the body must have fell out of the back of the Pickup Truck! So now they’re going to have to

Go back and search for the body. And it’s still too close to their home territory. It looks like, wherever he has fallen out. Okay! No, it’s not! They’re happy enough. Screw it Ruiz is going. Screw it! It’s out of my Truck! It’s far enough away! Forget about it! Let’s go home!

But there still seems to be this big thing. If this Rotten dies, that something bad happens. So, like, if they’ve just left him, if he fell out into the middle of the road, he’s going to get hit by a Car or Truck and then this bad thing will happen, surely. No?

Everyone’s gone home. They seem happy enough with what they’ve done. So who am I to argue? I don’t know enough about the backstory and lore of this! Thunder and Lightning! That ain’t good! And Ruiz’s Wife looks pregnant as well. Why you’d want to bring a baby into

A world where Churches are dead, evil is rampant in the world and people get possessed. I don’t know? Great! A Goat is dead! Oh, no, a Goat’s possessed! And remember they said they make the Animals go crazy? Remember I said that Swine… and Goats also represent evil and the Devil!

Is it similar to, like, the Rottens? He can’t kill the Goat because the evil will escape? I presume that’s why he hasn’t shot it. But it looks like he’s going to now. So you can’t shoot it with a firearm, but you can kill it with an Axe? What?

It’s kind of like that scene in The Witch with Black Jack! Wasn’t that the name of the Goat? That’s coming up and taunting the guy to do it! Because he wants to be killed! I presume that’s bad because she told him not too! Yep, there we go. It’s bad!

The Wife just axed the crap out of him because the evil got out of the Goat when he shot it with a firearm and into her. And now she’s probably going to do herself. She’s axing herself in the face, man! Man, that’s rough! That is really rough!

So the evil’s out and about now, in that region, because they killed that Goat. So it’s going to come after the two brothers, I presume. Looks like the evil’s here. The younger brother has seen something happening with the antlers on the wall. I will say kudos to the Director and the Writer.

This Movie is giving a good tense atmosphere. Ah! It’s the brother of the Rotten! The Mother has disappeared! He’s turned up at the brothers’ house. He’s only a Kid! Come on, lads, take pity on him. Yeah, but he’s not infected, guys! He’s only a Kid! Come on! He’s lost his Brother, his Mother’s

Disappeared and he’s only a Kid! Give him a break! Not just a bloody barn. Give him some food. Let him sleep in your house. There seems to be so many rules around this evil that’s abound in this alternative timeline. You can’t use firearms to kill them. You can’t use electric lights,

Because electric lights attracts them. That’s two rules so far. How many more is there? So the Brothers are going to leg it! They are afraid to take anything from the House because that could be contaminated, as well! Yeah, it’s hard to understand what the rules are about dealing with this evil

So far! Two are clear, the rest are unclear. Two of the rules, I mean! So this older brother with the beard is divorced or something. He said he has to pick up his Kids and now he’s at this townhouse. So it must be the ex-Wife’s house or something.

So is the ex-Wife remarried? And that’s the new Husband? Who’s not going to be pleased to see the old Husband turn up early morning. This evil must taint everything. Like the guy’s even stripping. They didn’t take anything from the house and even wants to get rid of his clothes

Because he thinks they may be tainted. Now, the Dog’s eating it! And remember, the other guy said to make the Animals go crazy first. So I’ll be worried about that Dog if his clothes are potentially tainted with the evil. Of course she’s going to think he’s drunk. He’s standing there buck naked, early

In the morning at their house. I’m worried about that Dog because the camera keeps panning to it! I’m definitely worried about that Dog! It’s focusing on the Dog too much. Fantastic! The Wife has a restraining order against him. Was he a drinker or something? That Dog’s possessed!

I’m calling it now! Because it sniffed the clothes that the guy subsequently burned, the camera keeps going to him. And it’s a big, massive Dog as well! That Dog could do some damage! So calling it! He’s going to eat the face of all of these people! Why doesn’t the ex-Wife and

The new Husband believe him, though? Because, again, we’ve already established that this evil is a common occurrence in the World. There’s Official State Agencies for dealing with it. The Police are aware! The Politicians are aware! So why don’t they believe him? He must have a past that we’re not

Understanding here, that she thinks he’s crazy! He has a mental illness or he’s a drinker or something! And in fairness, he’s not trying to take the Kids just by himself. He’s offering to take the ex-Wife and the new Husband as well. So they should believe him based on that to be honest!

Maybe he’s telling the truth, Missus! Maybe he’s not trying to just screw with you! Because what he’s saying sounds plausible given the story we’ve been told. And you should listen to him! Get over yourself! It’s not all about you! Maybe he genuinely is trying to save you and the Kids

And he’s even willing to bring the new Husband. I told you about the Dog! It’s after eating the face of the little Girl! Ah man! I knew that Dog was bloody Devil Dog! Now, the other Kid is gonna get eaten as well! Come away! That little Girl’s dead, man!

Now, it’s gonna eat your face too, mate! It’s dragging a kid around like a bloody chew toy! Now it’s after legging it with the Kid! And of course the…. Okay, so I think that Girl is the Kid of the new Husband and that’s why the new Husband’s freaking and has gone running.

But in fairness, the other guy, the ex-Husband’s trying to help as well. Probably gonna have to blur all of that for YouTube because it’s violence towards Kids, which they’re freaky about! He bloody tried to warn you, Woman. You wouldn’t listen! It was all about you! You just couldn’t listen to the man!

You couldn’t let go of the past, could you? Now your Daughter’s dead and it’s your fault, Woman! That poor young Kid is scarred for life now, the Boy as well! It looks like the oldest Son is disabled in some way. What is it though? I don’t know!

He seems catatonic or mentally disabled in some way. Is he physically disabled as well? Or is it just mental disability? Because the Father is carrying him? You can’t shoot it with a firearm, man! Why are you calling him an asshole? He came to warn you and none

Of you would listen to him! It’s your fault! Both you and your Missus that, your Kid is dead! Sorry to be so harsh, but it’s true! They still won’t listen to him because he’s taking the Gun. He’s going to kill the Dog, and evil is going to get out all over that Town.

Even more so than already is. Well, this guy definitely has a past! The Father with the beard. Because even the Cops know him and they’re talking about, oh, did you make another mistake! So in fairness, maybe I’m being a bit harsh on the ex-Wife and the new Husband.

Maybe this guy has done enough damage in the past that it would be hard to believe him. Well, I get you can’t use Guns, but why don’t you have a weapon? Great! He shot the Dog! That means that Husband’s now going to be possessed. And he’s got a Gun!

God knows what he’s going to do! What? The girl is back? We’ve seen the Dog bite her face and basically tear her neck. So is it like zombie bites that the evil is passed on through bites? And now she’s possessed. Look at her! Not a mark on her!

And the way she’s smiling as well. A her face should be bitten to death, her neck should be ripped, and her throat should be ripped out. And a Kid that age would not be smiling after being attacked by a Dog like that. That kid’s possessed!

I never had Apple Ice Cream. Never even heard of it! Didn’t know it was the thing. Is it nice? Okay, so this oldest Kid does seem to understand what’s going on. So I’m presuming then he’s Autistic and that’s the reason for the lack of communication.

Okay, that Kid has just predicted that new Daddy is going to kill them all with a Car. Yep, that’s a Demon Baby! We had the Demon Dog, now we have a Demon Kid! And there’s the little Kid’s prediction coming true. Mama and Daughter just squashed by new Daddy.

I presume that means all three of them are possessed now. Kid is possessed from being bitten by the Dog. The new Daddy is possessed from shooting the Dog. Mammy was killed, but she’ll probably be resurrected because they mentioned the evil can fuck with the deceased.

So that’s going to be three evil people now. And that means the whole Town is screwed! The Demon Kid is loving this! Well, at least the other guy got his two Kids out and can run and flee. But where’s the younger Brother? The younger Brother went to pick up their Mother

And bring their Mother with them, which makes sense. So the Mother hasn’t a clue what’s going on and she’s asking typical Grandmother questions. Why aren’t they in school? Did you sort out something with the ex-Wife? What’s going on? Is someone dead? Reminds me of my own Mother at her age.

Now Sabrina’s dead Grandmother! She got possessed. Her Husband got possessed. Her new Kid got possessed. They’re all dead! Her Dog got possessed! Everyone! They keep talking about the evil being born. Like, is it a physical born? Is it a spiritual born? What do they mean by this born? This birth?

So they take the most valuable thing in your life, which is obviously going to be the person you’re probably closest to in terms of love. And there’s seven rules. We’re going to hear the rules from the Grandmother at last. Thank you! Electric lights, we know! Animals we know!

Didn’t know that! About taking anything that’s close to them! Don’t hurt them! Well, that’s… I’m still confused! Because we’ve seen people say, don’t use firearms, but the pregnant Wife was going to use the Axe. So it’s all the fallen angels the Grandmother is listing out here. Okay, so she’s clarified the

Don’t shoot them with firearms. But again, she said don’t hurt them. I’m not clear on that one yet. Because we’ve seen other people saying that you can as long as it’s not a Gun. And the 7th rule is not to forget the rule, the other six rules, which makes sense, right?

So this is an end times alternative timeline. Churches are dead, evil is prevailing, the Planet! It’s all the fallen angels coming back to take over the World to set up the Apocalypse and the Battle of Armageddon. That poor Autistic Kid is going to be freaked out

Because as far as I’m aware, Autistic Children need routine and rely on routine for their structure in their life. And their balance. He’s just seen his Mother killed by his new Step Dad. He’s seen his younger sister killed, and he’s been just driven away from all his structure and routines. Great!

The squashed Wife is now calling the Grandmother, obviously Demon possessed, as I predicted! No, you shouldn’t answer. It’s a Demon! You’ve seen her getting killed. Well, the other guy did. Not you, but the other guy, your Brother, did. Why is he going to answer? Just don’t answer! It’s a Demon!

You know it’s a Demon! Just throw the fucking thing away! Remember the rule that they want to take the thing that’s most valuable to you and the thing that would be most valuable to a Demon possessed Mother would be to take her Kids! That’s why she wants her Kids!

And that’s why she’s calling! So she’s going to hunt them down now, I bet you any money! Because she needs that Demon part of her needs to destroy those Kids. That’s definitely a Demon talking. 100%! See! She’s telling him she’s coming after him! I told you!

And I presume because they’re Demons and they live in the Spiritual Realm, they’ll be able to track them through the Spiritual Realm. Going back to the rules, I presume if they come into contact with anything electrical, the Demons will be able to track them through that. I don’t know, I’m guessing!

This guy’s now freaking out understandably! He didn’t have any responsibility for his Kids. He had a restraining order. Now because his ex-Wife is dead. Of course he’s mourning the Mother of his Kids. He would have feelings for her. He now has full responsibility for the two

Kids, including a disabled Kid, which it sounds like he ran away from previously. Not that he did anything bad, like drinking or crime, like I was talking about before, but he actually just couldn’t cope with the Autistic Kid and he ran. So now he’s freaked! Again understandable!

I can’t understand running away from your Kid. Never could, never would do that. But for someone who did that and couldn’t cope with a disabled person child and suddenly have all of that responsibility, thrust upon them in 24 hours. I get it! So the younger Brother knows someone who’s gone

Through something like this before, and he’s recommending that they go to her house. If I’m following. So this Woman obviously is experienced, because we already heard that she has no electricity and she deliberately hasn’t got it. But what I want to know is how does the younger Brother know her?

Is he into the older Ladies or something? She doesn’t live close by that much, we’ve established. It sounds like they’re stuck there for the weekend. Whether the older Brother likes it or not. The Autistic Son needs cleaning. The Banks are closed because it’s the weekend.

And if that older Lady is going to lend them money, that Mirta, they have to wait until Monday. So whether he likes it or not, he’s stuck. But to be honest, she sounds per the younger Brother, like someone who’s been through this before. She doesn’t have electricity.

It sounds like a good place to hold out, in fairness. So the younger Brother doesn’t really know the backstory of Mirta. She mentioned something once and now he’s trying to get out of her what her experience actually is. But she seems kind of cagey. She doesn’t want to really reveal.

Maybe she knows something that’s terrible, as in, this can’t be stopped, this is inevitable. This is the end times, this is the apocalypse. And if you did know that, you wouldn’t want to tell other people because they all end up just blowing their brains out, wouldn’t they? He’s right about that!

Gossip is free and people, particularly in small country areas, love to gossip, man. There’s two… one advantage and one disadvantage. I grew up in the Country Side, so I know what I’m talking about! A very remote rural area! Everyone knows your business, everyone’s up in your business, and all they want

To do is find out what’s going on with your business so they can gossip about it. Right! That’s bad! You get no peace, no privacy. But on the other hand, when something goes wrong, everyone knows you, everyone’s there to support you. And it’s a real sense of community that

You do not get in the City. And I say that after living both in Galway City, in London and several other Cities around the World and in Dublin now for 20 plus years. There definitely isn’t the same sense of community, but you have more privacy and

That has its negatives as well! Because, when something goes wrong, you have no one to rely on. Most people in the city nowadays, at least in Dublin, don’t even know their neighbours. Poor Jair, he’s so freaked out! And being an Autistic Kid, he won’t even leave

The Car because that’s his safe sanctuary now. I love the kind of deep Cello music we’ve going on in the background. It really adds to that heavy, tense atmosphere we’re experiencing in this Film. The lighting and the shading are really good as well. And because… one of the things Mirta spoke

About is the evil can move, you know, shadow people. It can move in the shadows and the shadows can move on their own. You really feel that good effect here! There’s good tension! There’s good story building! There’s good World building! There’s good lore building! Even with the seven rules. Yeah!

A credit to the Writer, the Director and Lighting guy and everyone involved, because it took a lot of effort to put this together. This is well thought out! Oh, crap! Mama Bear has found them. But how? But that looked like her dressing robe on that bloody hand.

Oh! She’s got the youngest Kid and the Grandmother is engaging with her. Of course you did, Sabrina, because you want to kill the thing that’s most valuable to you. You’re going to kill the Kids. With your messed up, crashed face! Pedro, your crazy, dead, Demon possessed ex-Wife

Is here and she’s got your youngest Son. But bloody don’t leave Jair on his own! So if you can’t hurt them and you can’t kill them with firearms, how do you deal with them? How do you get them to back off? Crosses? Well, you said Churches are dead, so obviously

Religion you can’t use in this World. What do you do then? Where is the place that no one can harm them? Hell, Woman? She’s jumped off the bloody balcony! Is the Kid dead? The youngest Kid. The surviving youngest Kid. Bloody hell, I’m tense! I hate anything got to do with

Killing Kids or harming Kids! Well, now you’re only thinking of Jair! I told you not to leave him on his own! That was stupid! Also, I’m wondering, because he’s Autistic, does that make him less prone to possession or actually more prone to possession? I’ve actually read, because I am religious, as I’ve spoken

About before, and I do follow the paranormal quite a bit because I’m interested in that sort of stuff. And I have read before that disabled people, mentally disabled people, are actually more prone to possession, not because they’re evil or not because they’re bad, but because they don’t have as much capability as a

Regular person to kind of resist. There’s some very good books on possession, if you’re ever interested, and there’s a good one by Father Malachi Martin. I’ll leave links to the names of the books in the video description. I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

I went to a Secondary School run by Priests and there was a big scandal. I won’t name the School, but there was a big scandal the year before I started, where it was a half boarding school, half day boy School. I was a day boy! But there were some boarders involved in

Devil worship and one of them had to be exorcised because he became possessed. This was the rumour when I was a first year floating around my School. Now the Priest who supposedly did the possession was my religion teacher in second year, and we kept prodding him on this. Did this kid get possessed?

Did he have to be exorcised? He eventually relented and the only thing he would say is there’s two things I’ll say to you guys. We’re about 13 at the time. Second years! He said, evil is real! I’ve seen it with my own eyes! And possession is real!

So don’t mess with the occult because you do not know what you’re opening the door to. That’s just his view. I know other people have different views, that’s fine. But to me, this guy was not… I won’t say his name, but he was not a guy that would lie or exaggerate!

He was quite a straight guy and he was a Priest. And when he said that, we all took it quite seriously because we knew him as a Character. He was not prone to exaggeration or telling stories. In fact, he tried to avoid it as much as possible. So yeah, it made us think!

So Mirta is saying all of this started because you moved that Rotten guy at the start and you just left him dumped there. And he’s what, given birth to evil? Or the evil is spreading out from him? So, they’re going to have to track him down now and… Well

Again, what do they do? They’ll have to get it Cleaner because they can’t hurt him, they can’t kill him. But there is a process because we know there’s State Cleaners. With regards to the paranormal, guys, I’d be interested in hearing if any of you have had paranormal experiences.

From my own side, I’ve seen ghosts on two occasions with other people present. And there were full body apparitions. Not something you could mistake. I’ve seen a UFO, definitely at least twice. One directly over my house here in Dublin. One night, late at night, when I was smoking a cigarette out the back.

I suffer from sleep paralysis, so I’ve also seen shadow people and stuff like that. There is a scientific explanation for sleep paralysis, which I question for one reason only. I don’t question the mechanism, the biological mechanism. I do question why people see the same thing all over the World.

Because if it is a hypnagogic state and you’re basically dreaming while awake, people should be seeing different things. But the reports are always the same. Shadow people, Hat man, the old Hag. Right! They’re the three things everyone sees. Why is that? If it’s purely biological?

And I’ve also had other strange experiences which are too personal to go into. But they would be the ones that I’m willing to share in the open. So I’d love to hear your experiences with paranormal, if you have any, please let me know in the comments. Well, they kind of lucked out

With Mirta then, because she seems to know about this whole cleaning ritual. So if they can find this Rotten dude that they dropped off the back of the Pickup, she should be able to sort them out. Maybe there is a Divine Presence guiding them after all, in this.

That they ended up at MIrta’s house, that the younger Brother ended up having a thing for older Women, which turned out to be Mirta, and that she had a background in cleaning. So there seems to be a Higher Power… again, this is my reading of it, so don’t go mental!

You’re entitled to your own opinion, too. You’re listening to my opinion on my video, but there seems to be a Higher Power of good directing their circumstances a little bit here as well. They found Sabrina. I know that little Kid is dead! How could he survive that jump!

And knowing it’s a Demon who wants to hurt the thing that’s most valuable to you, he would have probably landed… Look, the Kid’s a mess! She’s eating him! She’s eating him! She’s actually eating him! That poor Child! I don’t know who got the worst death, the little

Girl or that little Boy? Again, I’m going to have to blur the crap out of it for YouTube. She’s eating his Brains! Like a bloody Ice Cream or a Popcorn bowl! Just pulling out bits of Brains. Having a chomp while she mooches along the road! Like, I’m not easily disturbed by horror stuff.

I just don’t like stuff with little kids like that. Yeah, run that bitch down! But you’re supposed to not hurt them. And she was already ran down. That’s how she became possessed, mate. So I presume that younger brother is going to get possessed now that he hurt that Sabrina Demon!

Interesting comment Mirta made there! That children like evil because children can be very cruel! And children are often depicted as innocence. And I think that’s what she’s saying is that innocence, that inability to completely understand right from wrong, not only allows them to be influenced by good, but also by bad.

And kind of is a commentary that if you get bad parents or a bad upbringing, you get a bad adult or a bad teenager. But I did get what she’s saying, because kids can be quite cruel and tend to follow on each… you know, one

Another, in kind of peer groups and will pick on someone mercilessly, non-stop if they feel like it, you know! And I’ve seen that happen. The younger brother is possessed! Called it! Because he ran down Sabrina! Can’t blame him, seeing her eating his nephew’s brains like that!

But, now he’s going to kill the Mother, is he? Great! And Jair is possessed now as well, because he’s now a fully functioning teenager. He’s no longer autistic. So the only one of the family that’s not left possessed is Pedro. Bloody hell! Grandma knows too! You can see the look on her face!

Jair isn’t able to communicate like this! That’s something else talking through him. Again, an interesting comment by Mirta. What evil eats first is the sound of nature. And again coming from… remember I said in the intro that horror is always a social commentary. And you can take that kind of social

Commentary here to mean a much bigger thing. Evil eats the sound of nature. It destroys Rainforests! It pollutes! It destroys the climate! Whether you believe in climate change or not. But you get my point, right! Interesting! And that’s a deep social commentary. And you often find that in horror movies and people who

Don’t like horror and don’t get it, miss that! And they miss so much and so much quality social commentary. By avoiding horror movies, which often have deep underlining meanings, like this! For example, a lot of times horror movies can be about abuse and trauma, like the possessed representing someone, or, you know,

The evil spirit representing the abuse someone has gone through, etc. Great, so all the kids are worshipping Mr. Big Pussy bloody Rotten dude! So I presume these kids are going to defend this rotten dude. He’s like their God! He’s one of the fallen angels who always wanted to be God!

So, are we going to get real Children of the Corn stuff going on here? Yeah, these kids are all gone friggin evil, loco! Don’t trust a word they’re saying! Evil lies! He’s the Father of Lies! Remember? Well, given the name of the dude who’s possessed

The rotten, is Uriel, who’s one, in demonology, one of the most powerful of the fallen angels. One of the most senior. It wouldn’t surprise me, Mirta, if you’ve bitten off more than you can chew here, because that would be quite a powerful demon you have to take on.

That’s the kid that nearly hit with the bike or with the pickup truck. He knows where the rotten is because he obviously took it. And then all his friends got infected through him. Pedro, shut your mouth! Listen to Mirta! She’s got experience. She knows what she’s talking about. Good advice! Make a plan!

Think about it carefully! Think about all the different outcomes that you could possibly face and have a strategy for dealing with each of them. I don’t believe this kid! Because if he’s possessed by Uriel, he’s going to send them wherever Uriel isn’t. Whatever direction to get them as

Far away from Uriel as possible! Oh, see, Pedro’s naive and innocent! He’s believing the kid. I wouldn’t! I’d do the opposite of what that kid was telling me. Thank you, Mirta! I don’t believe this kid either! They’re all telling different lies to deliberately confuse! There is no point beating the kid, Pedro!

She’s possessed! I think Mirta’s right! Each kid is telling a different story, which sends them away from the school or whatever that building is. So I think Mirta’s right! It’s there somewhere! And that’s why all the kids are gathered there, worshipping it or protecting it, or whatever. I agree, Mirta! Great!

Of course, it’s down in the basement, which is dark, dank, and creepy. And you can’t see where you’re going because there’s no light. Although they do, like, electrical power. So maybe there is lights. Okay! It’s not a basement. It’s just hidden under the floor….. It’s just hidden under the floorboards! Okay, sorry.

It’s not the rotten. It’s all the dead teachers and parents, which the kids killed. The thing most valuable to them. You see, they’re all possessed, these kids. This is tense, man! This is tense! And poor Pedro doesn’t even know what’s waiting for him at home yet!

That his other kids are dead. Well, one is dead. His brain’s eaten by his dead mother. His younger brother’s possessed. Jair is possessed. Mother is probably dead now as well, killed by Jair! Ah, so Mirta is saying the rotten is hiding under all the dead bodies.

He’s using the dead bodies to hide his stink. Back the fuck away from me, demon girl! Think I’m going to believe a word that comes out of your mouth? Or any of your mouths Demon kids! Not a chance! With all your dead teachers and parents right in front of you.

Finally, we’re gonna see what this device that the Cleaner was carrying at the start, is for and how it’s used! Please shut that kid up! That girl, she’s just non-stop bloody mouthing for the demon, for Uriel! And there he is! Oh, yeah! He’s still alive! Of course, you want to be killed!

You want the evil to be born, don’t you? So you get even stronger than you are already! So what? that machine, she needs to stick into the back of his neck? Okay! With that long knifey thing! First thing you’re taught in exorcisms is do not

Listen to the demon, whatever they say, because they will try and fuck with your head, which is exactly what he’s doing to Pedro here. And Pedro’s falling for it. Don’t listen, Pedro! He wants you to do exactly what he wants you to do, which is kill him.

And he’s trying to make you so mad, so angry, so distraught that you’ll do it! Don’t listen! Exactly! The kids are probably all going to stab Mirta now or something. There we go! Well done, Pedro, for being a Muppet! See? Demon kids killing Mirta. And she was your only hope!

She knew how to use that instrument. She knew what to do. She was your only hope! If you destroyed the rotten, you might have got your younger brother back! You might have got Jair back! At least! The souls of your dead kid and dead wife would be able to rest in peace!

And probably your dead mother as well. But I will say this is fitting with Pedro’s personality. We learned that he ran away from responsibility with his autistic kid. He ran away from his ex wife. He wanted to suicide himself with his kids. So he’s not a guy that takes responsibility, well!

So, is it any surprise he’s failed this test as well? And of course, Pedro, make it worse! You’re killing the demon. Exactly what he wanted. Like this….. Pedro’s an idiot! Pedro deserves everything he’s getting! To be honest, man, he’s an idiot! It’s very hard to have any sympathy for Pedro at this stage.

And now evil has been born. Fantastic! To roam the world. Is this the antichrist? The demon kids are all bloody delighted! Evil won’t even kill you, Pedro, because you’ve been its loyal servant. And that’s why it just marked you as one of his! And this is actually, I think, where the

Allegory to Cain and Abel comes in. It’s the mark of Cain. Because Cain killed his own brother. And effectively, Pedro has killed all of his own family by his own actions here. By refusing to listen, by relying on himself and not relying on others. And what was the fate of Cain?

To wander the world alone. Hence shall be Pedro’s fate! And all brought on by himself! Yeah! Let’s see what lovely stuff is waiting for you back here, Pedro, at home! Dead mother! Dead son! And Jair, God knows what state he’s in! See! It’s the Mark of Cain, Pedro!

You ain’t going to be able to get rid of it! You’re doomed to have that mark for life and wander the world alone. That kid is possessed as well! Great! So this kid is after saying, he actually ate and killed his mother.

He fed her to the pigs! And he ate her! Part of her! And he said to the younger brother of Pedro that the same has happened to your mother! So Jair, has eaten the grandmother! Lovely! He’s probably coughing up a fur ball or a hairball from the mother, the grandmother. Sorry!

And suddenly he’s autistic again, which I presume is a ruse by the evil! See! It’s a hairball from his grandmother that he ate! What a lovely way to find out that your mother is deceased, huh? Eaten by your own kid! Including her necklace. Nice! See! Jair putting on a ruse!

He just gave him a side glance there! You caused it all, Pedro! The only ones you really tried to save were Sabrina, the new husband, and the kids at that point. Everything else has been a fuck up from the minute… from that moment onwards! Hey, guys. And welcome back!

And that’s the end of When Evil Lurks! A wonderful, wonderful horror movie from Argentina that I actually really enjoyed. So I’ll speak about some positives and some negatives, and then I’ll give the movie my rating, my own personal rating. On the positive side, there was some strong world building, some strong lore building.

We’re obviously living in the end times. The fallen angels are coming back for the apocalypse. They’re trying to be born into the world by possessing people. This had become so common, the government had even appointed public sector exorcists or cleaners. For some reason, the churches are dead.

But that was never fully explained, why? Just, I presume, like revelation says, in the end times, people lose faith and run away from the church. So I presume that’s why they’re dead. We also had the seven rules of how to deal with these creatures and these things. The evil, when it possessed someone!

And then… you know, so there’s quite a strong biblical revelations narrative in that world building. We also had Pedro. More of the biblical narrative. Pedro being the atypical Cain from Genesis. He had the mark of Cain put on his forehead by the demon he gave birth to. He refused to obey.

He refused to listen. He let his own pride and anger take over, which are obviously some of the deadly sins. There’s more of that strong…. and Argentina being a Catholic Country like Ireland, you can see that strong kind of biblical Catholic narrative running through there. Then we also had good performances.

The performance by Demian Salmon, such an Irish name! I grew up with a load of Salmons in a… where I’m from, so… and I knew by looking at him, he had irish heritage. He could walk into a Pub in any part of Ireland and ask for a pint of Guinness,

And no one would think he wasn’t Irish! So he’s definitely related to that Irish immigration to Argentina in the 19th century. So his performance was great! And I really liked Mirta’s performance! And even the annoying little girl was quite good as well, you know, at the end there, the demon possessed girl.

In terms of the bad, I think the bad would be that there wasn’t enough back story given in the world building. I would have preferred more back story. I thought Pedro, we should have found out more about his back story. We got glimpses. He obviously had threatened suicide with the kids.

He ran away from dealing with Jair, but we didn’t have enough to fully understand his character. And the reason I say that is you need that background to a character, like in any novel or in any movie, to understand the motivations for what they’re doing and their actions throughout what we’re actually viewing.

And Pedro just seemed like a mess generally, and just, you know, wouldn’t do anything. Just always seemed to take the most idiotic path. And maybe I’m missing something, but to me, that wasn’t fully explained. I would have liked a bit more character building around Pedro in particular.

We got a lot of good backstory with Mirta, for example, and just glimpses of Pedro’s story. But maybe that’s the point, that he was irresponsible and his actions of the past came back to haunt him, and that he hadn’t learnt any lessons. Like he still wouldn’t listen to Mirta, and he

Still just kept trying to do his own thing. So as a character, he never seemed to achieve any real growth. Anything else I want to say on that? Not really! I already spoke in the intro about the social commentary piece, which you find in all horror movies

Generally, and in this case the pesticide and the harm it was doing in remote parts of Argentina. You could see that particularly at the first 15-20 minutes of the movie. That theme was quite strong! After that we kind of switched into the more biblical narrative

And end times narrative! In terms of a rating I think for a horror movie, I think 7, 7.5 out of ten is fair. And I’m only docking it a couple of points for the stuff I mentioned already. There’s lack of a backstory, Pedro’s character arc not being fully developed enough for

Me to understand really his motivation. The special effects were good! The makeup was fantastic! the rotten looked great! You had, you know, Sabrina eating the kids brains, and you know, it was all really well done, even if it was quite horrible to look at. But that’s the point. It’s a horror!

The lighting was used to good effect and the shading that was done well. I felt the direction was pretty evenly paced and the story generally was good. So yeah, I think 7.5 is probably where I’d give it. Let me know your rating in the comments, guys, if
