Ocean Panoramas and Seafood BBQs in the Great Outdoors at Takahira Camp Field 【Explore Oita Japan】

Hi y’all! I’m Xena Today I’m here with Explore Oita Japan I’m currently standing in this beautiful mountainside area in a city called Saiki Currently right now, I’m actually in the southeast of Oita I’d like you guys to come on a journey with us to explore this hidden gem known as Takahira Camp Field

Welcome to Saiki [Explore Oita Japan] Takahira Camp Field is a serene camp field set on a mountaintop on the coast of Saiki My friends and I found it by chance and it immediately became my favorite city escape Right now, I’m sitting at the Takahira Camp Field reception and I’m currently waiting on a friend

She was downtown at Roadside Station Kamae trying to bring up ingredients for our lunch I’m currently at the roadside station in Saiki Roadside stations are very common in Japan and you’ll find them almost anywhere you go Saiki is also famous for its seafood So I’ll be picking up some fresh seafood for lunch Xena, look! Hey, oh my gosh! Look at the size of that box What’s inside of it? We have clams, noble scallops oysters and a Japanese lobster and it’s alive I can see that How are we going to grill any of this? I don’t know but I could ask the staff about it

– Please do – I’ll go do that Thank you so much Then I’ll see you soon You may wonder why we could find this much fresh seafood so easily It’s because Saiki City is a top class seafood city in Japan It leads Kyushu’s coastal fishing in both volume and variety

Saiki is widely known in Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo where fresh seafood from all over the world gathers This city will also strike you with amazing views like this along its 168 miles of ria coastline There’s plenty of amazing stuff you can do here What you can do here is

Stay in one of the cabins We have 3 cabins available You can also bring your own tent and enjoy camping here What activities can we do here? We offer bike rental services so you can rent a bike and go cycling You can also enjoy a barbecue here Look! What do we have here?

It looks like some sort of a Japanese sign but I can’t actually read it OK, it says “sori muryo” It means sledding for free I’ve never actually been sledding before I think we can go sledding up the hill OK, let’s give it a try then Let’s go

It’s so steep I think it’s going to be fun I just don’t want to fall off the hill Wait Ria there are some steps over there OK, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 I’m going to be out of breath by the time we reach the top Oh my gosh We made it to the top

Look at the view! My breathing Do you sit on the edge? You basically sit on it You need help? No Don’t trip, OK? I will not Shall we? Weee! That was an experience Fun and tiring experience I’m so hungry I’m starving I want that seafood Saiki City got great seafood, you know

– Barbecue time? – Barbecue Let’s go! – Slide down? – No, never To prepare the barbecue grill we burned some charcoal which you can buy here at the camp Have you ever tried a fresh seafood grill like this? Barbecuing on a mountaintop was a unique experience This area brought us this amazing spread of fresh seafood that she handpicked herself and I’m very excited to try it We have noble scallops, a Japanese lobster turban shells and other seafood as well We’re very excited to try them I’m starving That sledding had knocked me out quite literally So let’s get started Ready?

– Let’s eat – Let’s eat Ooh, that looks good Look at that It’s so fresh looking Look at that meat It just came out It’s so good You should try it The noble scallops popped open when you were grilling and the juice just popped outside They were flying everywhere

That was actually my favorite part of the grill We just finished our lunch and we’re heading off to our last activity – Which is? – Biking and actually this camp field area has a 30-minute bike trail that we’re very excited to get into Here are the bikes – I’ll take the short one – Of course. I’ll take the tall one

Make sure to wear your helmet – and be safe – The right way around Yes At Roadside Station Kamae while I was picking up the seafood they were cutting up seafood fresh – Right in front of you? – Yes It’s just so amazing to see how they prepare all of it

No wonder that taste was so good during the lunch To know that it’s fresh and to see that they catch it here On the drive here I literally saw their fish nets Right? They have so many fishing spots in Saiki We’re burning some calories of the lunch? – Moving – It’s good scenery around here

[Music] Xena, what was your favorite moment today? I think my favorite moment would have to be the amazing bike trail that’s available here The scenic view was amazing I loved being able to experience nature for those 30 minutes and breathing in that fresh air What about your favorite moment today?

Mine was grilling the seafood and picking up my own Japanese lobster You said it was the freshest thing you’ve ever tasted Even though there are a lot of activities here that we got to experience we were never run off our feet and that’s very much a good thing

They have some grass sledding that I got to do and Ria said it’s the best thing I can experience and in fact I had a lot of fun doing it You have 2 options at Takahira Camp Field which are the cabin and the tent You can comment down below

Saiki City is home to Oita Prefecture’s greatest fishing waters, blessed by the powerful Hyuga-nada Sea and Bungo Channel, and also offers plenty of produce from its huge forests and pristine streams. It boasts one of Japan’s most beautiful ria coastlines, which stretches for 168 miles.

This time, our hosts visited the scenic Takahira Camp Field, which offers sweeping panoramas of Saiki City’s oceans.

Nearby is also Roadside Station Kamae, a fantastic rest spot reachable in about an hour’s drive from central Oita City. It’s located in front of the Kamae Fishing Port, providing it with fresh daily seafood sold directly to the public. Our host stopped by to stock up on ingredients for their BBQ.

Takahiro Camp Field sits on a 984 feet hill at the southernmost tip of Oita Prefecture, surrounded by rich nature with 360-degree ocean views below and starry night skies above. You can look out over the sea of Kamae and the islands within from the cafe terrace and camp sites, stretching out as far as the mountains of Shikoku on clear days. Mr. Hayakawa, the manager of Takahiro Camp Field, explained more about the facilities and activities on offer.

Guests can opt for cheaper prices while immersing themselves in nature by bringing their own tent, or stay in comfortable fully-equipped cabins. The cabins have bedding, cooking gear, and more, and guests can borrow free grass sleds, rent bicycles, let loose on swings in the sky, and a whole bunch more. It’s a great place for family vacations, trips with friends, and getaways for couples.

After having a blast on thrilling grass sleds, our hosts got started on their much-anticipated outdoor lunch! They grilled up the seafood they bought at Roadside Station Kamae, filling the air with the enticing aromas of the ocean. Needless to say, our hosts were more than satisfied with their scrumptious seafood BBQ in the great outdoors. The simple flavors allowed the intrinsic goodness of the ingredients to shine―a deliciousness only found with camp cooking!

Feeling like a bit of exercise after eating, they followed their meal with an invigorating bike ride by the sea and mountains around Mt. Takahira. The area abounds with seasonal scenery, including gorgeous autumn foliage, best taken in on a bicycle!

Surrounded by the beautiful mountains and sea, we hope this video inspires you to visit Takahira Camp Field to enjoy the great outdoors and extraordinary scenery!
