29. 为什么是乔治市?日落洞? | Top 8 槟城最佳外国人居住区域【第2篇】#retirement #malaysia #rental #property #rent #mm2h

Recap of the previous episode: Are you expats considering retiring or accompanying your children to study in Penang. eager to settle down, but feeling lost in choosing the right neighborhood due to being newcomers?

I hope our area recommendations can help you! The previous episode covered the first part of the Northeast District, which is the area with the most number of seaside properties. Together, we visited the idyllic town of Batu Ferringhi, passing by the mountainside and the sea-facing Moonlight Bay.

We also explored The Marin at Ferringhi, a popular community with a mountain backdrop and a rating of 4.8 on online reviews. Then, we turned off the main road in Tanjung Bungah, experiencing the seaside community up close.

Continuing along Tanjung Bungah’s most beautiful mountain road, we were amazed by the community hidden in the valley like a peach blossom paradise. Finally, we arrived at Tanjung Tokong, concluding our journey in the International community where foreigners are most concentrated, Tanjung Pinang.

Today, we are embarking on the second part of the Northeast District, focusing on the area with the highest concentration of shopping centers, public facilities, and attractions. This area is primarily divided into two parts: George Town, and Jelutong. Let’s start by exploring George Town.

George Town serves as the administrative center of Penang Island. It was once a crucial trading hub in the Malacca Strait. Today, it is renowned for its rich British colonial architectures, traditional Chinese shophouses, and magnificent mosques. It is also the most densely populated area in Penang for commerce, healthcare, and various services.

Here we are at the Gurney commercial district, driving east along the main road, Gurney Drive. To the left is the sea, and on the right, we are passing by Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon, and the apartments nestled within the commercial district.

George Town is an old city, and there aren’t many condominiums available for foreigners. However, the apartments in this area are strategically located, enjoying the convenience of the nearby shopping centers, and they also come with a sea view. As we drive to this point, you can see more waterfront apartment complexes.

Still in line with the characteristics of Penang neighborhoods, they are generally small-scale, with one condo connected to another. This area, being a tourist attraction, boasts numerous dining options along the roadside. At every small intersection, you will find many food signs. Starting from the alley leading to Gurney Paragon,

Within just 1 kilometer, there are 3 to 4 dining centers with a variety of delicious offerings. Residents in this area are truly fortunate in terms of culinary choices. The only potential issue might be the proximity to such a bustling street, likely affecting the tranquility level.

On the right is the well-reviewed “1 Gurney” condominium. Then, taking a right turn at the corner, you’ll come across “8 Gurney”, which has a 4.3-star rating online. This condominium features spacious units of over 10,000 square feet, with a large balcony offering a panoramic sea view and a private swimming pool.

Just about 1 kilometer away from this coastal community, there are two well-regarded private hospitals. This is Gleneagles Hospital Penang. We have previously used Gleneagles in Kuala Lumpur, and despite the cost, the hospital environment and medical experience are top-notch. Let’s briefly experience the hospital environment. This is Penang Adventist Hospital.

We’re entering through the side entrance. Private hospitals, in general, give a sense of being quiet and organized, without the overwhelming crowds. My little daughter’s sinusitis and my emergency fishbone removal were both handled here. This is also the private hospital we use most frequently in Penang.

A bit further away within the region is the Penang General Hospital, established in 1854. This is the largest government hospital in Penang and the oldest hospital in the state. Foreigners can also seek medical care at government hospitals, but they will need to pay some fees. Of course,

It is generally more economical than private hospitals, so it’s worth considering based on individual needs. Within a 5-minute walk from the Penang General Hospital, there’s a vast field the size of three standard football fields known as Polo Grounds. It was also the venue for the previous Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

Leaving the Polo Grounds, and driving through a few blocks, you’ll arrive at St. Christopher’s International School in George Town. Although it’s technically in George Town, in terms of geography, it’s closer to Tanjung Tokong, so I’ve encountered children attending this International school in our condominium.

The surroundings of the school are truly pleasant, with winding tranquil paths, straight rows of trees along the pathways. When the wind blows, petals flutter down, making it an ideal place for learning. Cities with a significant Japanese population often have Japanese schools. Penang also has a Japanese school,

Marked by a simple and tranquil yellow and white wall on the left. Compared to scattered independent apartments or International schools throughout George Town, this area, being a renowned tourist destination, hosts more hotels and attractions. What you see now is the E&O Hotel, founded by the Armenian Sarkis brothers in 1885.

This seaside hotel, boasting British Victorian architecture, is often referred to as the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel due to its long history. I recommend their buffet here; while the dishes might not be extraordinary, the colonial charm of the hotel makes it a high value-for-money choice.

Leaving the enchanting E&O Hotel, let’s take a quick look at the surrounding scenery. Driving along the Esplanade, the white colonial building in front is the City Hall. Moving forward, upon reaching the corner fort, you’ll arrive at Fort Cornwallis; then circling around the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, you’ll see the Penang International Cruise

Terminal; Continuing along Bank Street, you’ll reach the lively and vibrant Armenian Street. After exploring George Town, let’s take a closer look at the distribution of grocery markets in the city. Next, let’s go and explore Jelutong. Jelutong is located south of George Town, approximately 7 kilometers from the Gurney business district. Without traffic jam,

It’s about a 20-minute drive. This area is a crucial route from the northeast area to Penang Bridge and Second Penang Bridge, with many elevated roads. Driving might be a bit dizzying for newcomers, and walking can be even more challenging.

Let’s take a look at the areas suitable for foreigners to reside in Jelutong, mainly divided into two parts. One is the residential and commercial area around Karpal Singh Drive, which is the area we are currently exploring. You can see there are quite a few apartment choices.

There are also many standard-sized units around 1000 square feet. If you continue straight, you’ll reach Karpal Singh Drive. To the left is the Karpal Singh Beach Promenade, where residents often walk, jog, or ride bicycles. On the right are various restaurants, bars, and dining centers, forming a relatively established community.

Directly across is the landmark of Karpal Singh Beach, as you can clearly see Penang Bridge and the beautiful sunrise from here. Therefore, it’s a popular spot for tourists. On the right, you can see some small terrace houses. At the intersection is the International school, Wesley.

Not far away is the Penang Fisherman’s Wharf, a well-known food court. Leaving this area, we are heading to the residential district around Bukit Dumbar Park and Lotus Supermarket. The residences here appear to be relatively newer. Having a large supermarket right at your doorstep is quite convenient, and we’ve enjoyed the benefits of it.

The streets in this area are narrow, with undulating slopes, and tall coconut trees line the roads, giving a tropical feel. The roads are not straight, with frequent turns; and just across the road from Lotus is a shopping mall called Udini Square. The overall atmosphere of this neighborhood is somewhat reminiscent of Singapore.

The predominant residential unit size in this area is between 1000 and 1500 square feet, with options also available under 1000 square feet. Within a 3-kilometer drive, you’ll reach the nearest private hospital, Lam Wah Ee Hospital.

Lam Wah Ee Hospital was established in 1883 and operates as a non-profit hospital, making its charges relatively lower compared to other private hospitals. Although the interior of the hospital may lack the modern aesthetics of some newer facilities, it is exceptionally clean.

Due to the grandfather of the children being over 70 years old and ineligible for insurance, Lam Wah Ee Hospital is the preferred choice when seeking private medical care. Based on several experiences, the grandfather is quite satisfied with the services provided by this hospital.

Let’s now gather additional information about the distribution of groceries, bazaars, hospitals and clinics in the Jelutong area. What you see now is a property we had previously explored before moving to Penang, called The Light Collection. The location is in Gelugor, next to Jelutong.

Since there are no other properties nearby, we’ll discuss this one separately. The community itself is quite large, with completed Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3; the upcoming Phase 4 for sale, and a commercial center under construction. There is a wide variety of unit types,

Including waterfront villas, multi-story apartments, and 2000 square feet sea-view flats, as well as standard 1200 square feet units. The only drawback is the lack of a walkable shopping disctricts, but it should be more convenient once the commercial center is completed.

This concludes our second episode on the Northeast District of Penang island, where shopping centers, public facilities, and attractions are most concentrated: George Town, and Jelutong. I hope this information has been helpful to you. I’m 80s Easy Life Vlog;
